I went to see this last night with some friends (actually was going with some friends, my SIL decided she wanted to come along and I bumped into my sister as she was going in as well!) Anyway! It was alright - if you've read the book, don't go in expecting it - the only thing the book and the film have in common is the letters.

We came away feel very let down, according to the movie all Irish men are tall, absolutely gorgeous, can sing, play guitar and are completely irresistable and you just fall into bed with them. Well, we live here and they AREN'T! The accents were terrible, their geography left a lot to be desired (Galway and Wicklow are in the same place!) and we were so close to the front that the sweeping scenic shots made me travel sick!!!!!! That said my sister and SIL cried the whole way through it but they're a lot soppier than I am (my SIL cried the whole way through my wedding and I didn't shed a tear!)

Oh that's a shame, I read the book last year and quite often the films are a bit of a let down aren't they.

I've read the book but am not going to see the film because:
a) it has been cast with Americans and the book is based in Ireland
b) they have described it as a comedy and if I remember rightly the book is very sad

It is alright - I definately wouldn't say rush out to see it! I am not a soppy type of person so it wasn't for me. Well that and the incredibly offputting terrible Irish accents. I suppose it's a great date movie - you won't actually care if you've missed most of it having a good snog down in the back row!!!!!!
