I have just been reshown the basics and am about a 1/3 of the way through a scarf for DD1, and I was wondering whether there were any helpful sites for interpreting what things like yarn forward mean! other wise I will be stuck with only patterns using plain knit and purl.

Cheers

I knit scarves in that furry wool (like sirdar funky fur etc..) I did about four last year and have just started again this year. But that is just 20 stitches knitted plain on both sides - nothing fancy but they are really effective and so easy to do. Am going to do some cushions next in the same furry wool and I think that will be fairly easy too, just more stitches.
That's about as much as I can cope with I think!! :D

Thanks everyone!

Those sites do help - patterns just look so scary when all you see is the abbreviations!

I do quite a bit of knitting. My Grandma taught me when I was little and I knitted a turquoise tank top in spider stitch when I was 7. It was horrible and I don't ever remember wearing it but it was evidently knitted well and fitted me. I've just finished a jumper for ds. I do have to be in the mood for it though and I do more in the winter than the summer. Wouldn't say I was an expert, just a bit of aran, not too much lacy stuff as I forget where I was everytime I have to leave it.

Cable knitting is easy i love doing it, it gets boring when you do stocking stitch, i need to do a pattern of some kind to keep the incentive up.

i make lots of items for families babies and my self because knitted items are so expensive in the shops, and you get more satisfaction when you make it.

i also love crochet - sewing to

any one needs any help just ask, i am always willing to help any one.

thanks

Eyelash sounds like a good way to describe it not sure on the size of it though, its basically the same size as a normal ball of wool

just started kntiing again after a break of about 8 yrs. I used to do loads and made a lot of things for madam when she was younger and did a few things for cam when he was a baby but just stopped.

I'm into scarves at the mement using wool that I had lying around (I have done a nice pink scarf for myself and a light green one as a christmas present for my boss)but just might go and buy some soon.

I learnt from my mum who has said she will reteach madam as she is better at doing it then I am

Don't you think that knitting has become a dying hobby , i find that people would prefer to go and buy it all ready made?.

I am not saying that their is something wrong with that, but i would prefer something made by some one i knew or by my own hand because you appreciate it better, all the work that went in to it.

Oh well that's my opinion any way- whats yours?

Azzi you only need about 2 50g balls of wool for a basic scarf in stocking stitch, I used to love knitting, although I'm no expert but had to give it up whilst pg, it made me feel really sick to look at it and touch it :-( I'm hoping to start up again sometime after the birth...if I get time!!

I love to knit.:woot: I have made quite a few things and have made all the woollen covers for my dc, not longies though as it is too hot here. I use a lot of cotton too as that is better for our climate. Knitting seems to have undergone a revival here at least and I think it's great.:happy72:
UK yarn is the best to knit with too! Though we export a lot of wool. LOL
If I work got how to add some photos then Ill put some things I have made in their.
