While waiting in church for ds`s carol service to start this evening, the man sat behind us was at chatting on his mobile phone.
Well my Dad felt he had to say something and it went sonething like this:
Dad: Can I just say something to you
Man: What
Dad: This is a place of worship not business
Man: Its not business, its pleasure
Dad: Just show some respect

With that the man just carried on talking on his phone.
So, what do you think? I for one think Dad was right. A church is not somewhere for taking an making phone calls!

I agree, that is awful. I am surprised the Priest (or whoever in charge) didn't say something or give a reminder to people. I would be mortified if my phone went off whilst sitting in church!

Your dad was definately in the right - I was brought up not to even talk in church beyond responding to prayers and I still find it incredibly disrespectful for people to talk never mind use mobile phones.

Ignorant man (the one on the phone not your dad) :kisshands: whats the point of being in a church if you are not going to show some respect

I agree with you. We have a group of Mentally handicapped adults who attend church every Sunday with a couple of carers and about a month ago a phone rung during the service and this foreign girl sat there during the service chatting away, she was most put out when she was asked to switch it off. I don't care if people are Christians or not but there is a time and place and church especially during the prayers of intersession is not the place for a phone call.

Is there no respect for anything anymore :angry-smi123

It was the same at school last week. Before the performance the head said please ensure ALL mobiles are switched off, 3 rang during the play and the idiots made no effort to stop them - ITS RINGING IN YOUR POCKET AND WE KNOW ITS YOURS AS PEOPLE SITTING EITHER SIDE OF YOU ARE LOOKING AT YOU AND SNIGGERING :angry-smi123
Then as soon as the play was over, in some cases before the head had finsihed thanking everyone for attending, you could hear a chorus of bleeps and tinkles as people switched their phones back on :fryingpan: Would a few more minutes made so much difference?

If I am on the bus I don't want to know "wot u doin mate?", I do not want to listen to your inane banter about who is going out on saturday night ot what you are watching on the tv - SHUT UP YOU MORONS!!!!!!!!! and turn your bloody music down whilst you are at it:cheesy:

Right - back in my corner now......

Don't get me on my soapbox about ignorant people, I'll be here all night, I have a VERY long list!

My OH is a total atheist but he wouldn't dream of using his phone in church, at YD's school nativity last night he nipped back home to leave his phone in the kitchen but there were several bleeping all the way through.

Even if you don't believe in God, is it too much to ask for respect towards the people that do, to a non-believer it may be just a building but to other's it's a sacred place of worship.

Shame you didn't have my ED when she was small in church with you. Someone was talking behind us at my cousins wedding and she turned round and announced loudly, 'God's Watching You!'. Of course, everyone turned round to see who was being naughty and the chatter went scarlet, lol!

Your dad was in the right - I would have done the same. Church is definately not the place for making phone calls. If someone was on the phone behind me in Church I would say something aswell. If it was oh so important he could have nipped outside for a few minutes. It is just plain right rude!!
