Did you haggle with suppliers to come up with a price that you purchase products from you or did you accept what they offered?
Is there a minimun discount that you expect?
How much do you think you need to order before you request a better deal?
I'm continually ordering from one supplier and am wondering if I should ask for a better deal.

I usually just accept what they quote. There is one supplier that I am going to be dealing with though and the figures just didn't work for me, so I phoned the company and spoke with the MD, who has offered me a discount. Hopefully the figures will work better now.
You won't have anything to loose Chell - go for it.

I haggled for a bigger discount with one of my suppliers after proving how much I was ordering from them over a 6 month period. You should always expect more discount if you are ordering more. Most of my suppliers have just offered more discount once I had a track record with them.

Interesting thread!
(I agree with friendlybaby)
I think you should ask for a discount if you are on a second or third order with the same supplier and are increasing the order size. I think the increase in order value/size is important here as it demonstrates that the product is working for you and the supplier will be more likely to discount if you are spending more.
If you cannot negotiate a better price try to go for better payment terms.
Some suppliers will offer discount for payment within 30 days and if you are already on 30 days ask for 60!
