OK, my new baby will be ready to launch very soon - as I have registered both .co.uk and .com names, I need some advice from the web techies pretty please :cheesy:.
Do I simply point both .com and .co.uk to the new servers from my dns panel in 123-reg?
Will one of the domains be dominant? If so, which one is considered best - .com or .co.uk?
I'm feeling a litte bit befuddled by it all :cheesy:.
TIA
Dawn

Hi Dawn
I've just been through the same thing with my site. I actually sought advice on a business forum and got an opinion from loads of techies. About 95% said that if you are aiming at a UK target audience then you should have the .co.uk address as the dominant one. This way, search engines know straight away that you are in the UK.
I have now got mine set up with the .co.uk as the main address and I've got a pointer coming from the .com to the .co.uk. As to how you physically do that I'm afraid I had my web guy do it for me so I can't help you with that bit.
If you email your website hosting people they should be able to help you with this.
Hope this helps and good luck with your site

I would set the dominant one up as .co.uk and then set up .com as a domain alias. Do you have the option to do that?

TBH is the second domain is just "parked" on the first, I don't think search engines give a monkeys, they can't tell how the server is set up
if however the seond domain changes to the first, as happens with a re-direct, then yes, make your .co.uk the one it resolves to rather than the .com
It all depends on how your server handles things. Are you using plesk or c-panel? or something else? to manage domains at your server end?

I'm using store2go.net, and as far as I can see, there is space to park one domain name, but I'm a total technical numpty when it comes to this sort of thing. I'll email them and ask - they're normally very good at getting back to me. Thanks :happy72:.

Does that mean 1 parked on top of your main domain? or you can just have 1 domain and the other has to be a re-direct? if that's the case then park the .co.uk and re-direct the .com
There are som clever .htaccess tricks which might help, ask if you need help with them
