An item on the bbc local news today told of how companies are being chased by the Performing Rights Society, to buy licences to play radios to employees. Apparently if there are more than a certain amount of people gathered you need a licence.

This also applies to those singing in public or making their own recordings - might be a little less trash on PooTube then :happy72:

My hubby is a radio station manager, and they have to pay £1000's each year to Performing Rights Society, to be allowed to play the songs on the radio in the first place. Why should companies have to pay again to listen?

Seems silly to me too but apparently any employer who plays music to the work force whilst they work are liable for this. In the example shown it was a chap with a workshop who employed 4 or five others and they wanted to charge him a fee. Maybe we will all go back to having to buy individual radio licences.

Thats like that pub, they had to have an entertainment licence because someone was singing along to the jukebox, think they got fined aswell!

Don't shoot me, but my dh is a licensing officer and this is part of his job as well as making sure taxi's, door supervisors (bouncers), sex shops and takeaways all have the correct licence. You can imagine what a popular man he is - lol.
