I use 4uhosting. At one time I wouldnt have recommended them but now I definitely would. The site has very little downtime and they are very quick to answer any problems I have, although support isnt 24 hours.
Liquid Web. We've just moved to them on a dedicated server. Excellent so far.

Well I host other peoples sites as well as needing hosting for my own and as such I have a dedicated server instead of normal shared hosting.
I am in the process of investigating new companies though as my current one isnt up to scratch (i've been with them for 2 years and the server is fine, its just if I need to do any upgrades they take eons to get back to me and I'm fed up of it now lol). I have heard good things about simply and easily though if that helps :)
Alternatively some wahm offer hosting plans.

pie - out of interest do you know if Liquid Web have any UK servers? I wont use ones outside the UK as there have been discussions about them causing sites to not rank as well in google UK searches etc.
Thanks :)

Shelby - I know this person from another forum and he is very reasonable, thinking of moving with him myself when ours needs renewing:-
http://www.matrixxhosting.com/
Matrix run their own servers and are not re-sellers. If you decide to get a quote can u just let him know that I passed on the info please (I dont get any commission though..lol)
Obscure - Im not sure if you want dedicated servers as he does UK and US/

As far as I know they don't. We did talk about this but decided that atm the price was too good and we would take our chances with the ranking. They have been truly excellent though.

Thanks guys - I shall look into these companies (and I will certainly mention you Toni if I change to Matrix!) and please keep any recommendations of amazing service coming!!
Currently I am with interhost who were one of the hosts recommended by the place I got my shopping cart software because of its requirements (and also who they use I suspect as their site has been down everytime mine has pretty much!) I will have to check into my contract and their service agreement but I am really unhappy with the service I have had - three periods of down time over the past four and a half months that have lasted for several hours. This last occasion it was down when I checked at tea time yesterday, came on sporadically for 30 seconds or so a few times, was still down before I went to playgroup this morning at half ten but fortunately seems to have been sorted by the middle of this afternoon. I think that is a bit rubbish really - and it always seems to happen when I have sent out a press release or done some other PR work!! Typical!!

Toni, that would be great - email me them if you don't want to put them up on the forum. Thanks!

thanks Toni,
Yes it is dedicated servers I am looking at - I prefer to have the control over whats going on on the server and you just dont get that on a reseller shared hosting package.
I just had a look at matrixx but at £300 a month I think I'll pass for now, the package I am looking at from rackspace (who are v well known at being the one of the UKs best dedicated server providers) is £100 or so less than that for similar spec and plesk control panel which I prefer. Shame as I like working on recommendations...
Thanks for the info though - will bear them in mind for the next time I upgrade (or get an additional server!).

I use Harlequin Domains, not cheap but can do all the stuff my web site needs, and they seem to work well for me, if I have a problem they're usually working on it and I can email them at all hours.
I think a lot of people are happy with Sadie's hosting

I use 1&1 their packages are pretty good and I've never had any problems with them, I think I had trouble getting the site up once in over a year. They give lots of features and software wtih their top packages too which is useful.

Thanks everyone. I have decided to stay with my current provider for the moment but will be keeping a record of all your recommendations. Also need some basic webspace for another project so will check them out in relation to that.
Just to add, I have recently moved to www.net-hosted.co.uk who have been excellent whilst I have transferred my websites over and I have had no problems during the two months I have used them. They are based in the UK.
I was susing a US host before who were fine but I just started to have a couple of problems with web site access so decided it was time to move.
