Tonight we launched our fundraising for a well needed new roof (hopefully we can raise the money we need - all £35,000 of it) beforeit collapses!) with a talent show! I was so nervous as so many things have gone wrong in the run up to it!
Anyway it went really well! We had 10 acts of varying greatness but they all did well! We raised £62.65!! It may not sound a lot in comparison with what we need, but its a start, and considering there were only 10 acts and we sold cans of drink, tea, coffee and crisps I think we did rather well!
Anyway this is the first of many events that we will be doing as we are in desperate need!!!!!
Thought i would share!

so now i need more fundraising ideas .. have already thought of:
an art show (each kid in beavers, cubs + scouts paints a picture, it goes on display and then we convince the parent they have to pay for it!)
im not a fan of bag packing or standing in the street selling raffle tickets IN UNIFORM - but will do it without!
Raffles
Wine and cheese evening
sponsored hike
but i need "different" ideas to get the whole community involved!!

Have you thought of drawing a roof and selling tiles for £1 each? (not real tiles of course) We did this with bricks to help raise funds for our new hut whe I was in the Guides.

Well done Suzi - fundraising is really hard so any amount being raised should be celebrated!

A BINGO NIGHTor two or even more, auction of promises ( try and get local businesses to donate something, get the parents to give a bit of time and use their expertise) cake stalls treasure hunt, car boot sales, a fun day with stalls craft, cakes do art tables. Hope that will help. Any way well done for the talent show.

Well done sweetie, thats a brilliant start and I wish you the best of luck :). I help out with fund-raising for our local cats protection and one of the fund-raisers that bring in the most money is a Bazaar. We recently did a bazaar and raised over £1,000 which was brillaint. we had lots of stalls with lots of different things and a lot of the community came along and had a great time. We had game stalls and tables with home back and goods to buy, we also had a place they could sit down for drinks and snacks. Its something the community can get involved in also, ask for volunteers to help etc. It was a big success and definitely worth all the time and effort. If its being run by the scout then you could get some of the troop to do there own stalls etc.
If you want any more help with fund-raising idea's feel free to give me a shout as we do a lot of fun-raising events for our local CP.
Well done again, your doing a brilliant job :)
Rosie x
Ps> If you do an event like this as its all for raising money for the rough you could get a big piece of material with tiles on it, and people donate a pound or more and write there name in a tile. To make it more attractive you could encourage people with a prize, for example one ramdom tile will be picked out and that person wins etc.

How about holding a beetle drive?
Wow! I'd forgotton about them.
Some fab ideas here - can't think of much more.
Don't forget to tell the local press about planned events - mentioning the centenary etc ...
Well done on making a start.
When I was on the charity team in my last job we did things like
World Cup table football
Pub Quiz (well called that but it was in the canteen with no beer..boo!)
charity football match
Guess the name of the mouse
Big christmas raffle (we wrote to local companies to ask if they would donate a prize)
cake sale
well there are a few more ideas for you ... good luck with raising the rest of the money.

Jumble sale!!! It is a huge money spinner - there are real jumble sale junkies out there!!! Try your luck - BUT make sure you advertise in all the local church newsletters (free) - on netmums (free) - in at least one local free paper (don't forget to mention you are a charity as you won't pay the VAT on the advert) - Also get the scouts to leaflet the streets around the week before (Do this during the meeting or it might not get done at all!!)

Well done.
Our local school, has a Toys and clothes fair this weekend. its like the NCT fairs, they sell on your behalf and take 10% of the profits.
Their Christmas Fair is in Nov, tables are £15 for sellers then they will have their own stalls and serve Turkey sandwiches, Mince pies, etc.

A Disco night - our Beavers leader arranges a Beavers Disco every year in the school hall - it is open to everyone. They have a tuck shop and they make quite alot of money. The DJ normally volunteers his time.

Oh fab Suzi!
What about a tea towel with faces on for Christmas? A group photo that mums and families can buy?
We used to have mothers' day tea parties with plants and things we had grown in pots for littlies to buy their mums while the mums relaxed with a tea and cake (obviously not at theis time of year, but worth thinking about!)

Well done you - are you not eligible for any grants locally? lottery money or suchlike?
Our councillors all have a "pot" or money that they can donate to good causes.
Our brownies/guides/cubs etc were in a similar position, they needed vast amounts of money to make the hut compliant with new disability access rules as well as needing new toilets, kitchen etc. And they managed to raise a similar amount within about 18 months.
Is there a technical college locally who would help out with labour when funds are raised?
Are there any firms locally who do the fashion show thing - they bring the clothes, you get the door money and a % of the sales.
With regard to the bag packing - Sainsburys and Mark & Spencers are very eager to help with this. Ours went and did a saturday at both and have been invited to go on a regular basis because they were very well behaved and had parental support.
Sainsbury's also have a person in each region whose job it is to deal with donation requests - even if you only get a voucher to use as a raffle prize, it might be worth the price of a stamp.
I was secretary of the fundraising committee at Emily's old school. We wanted to improve the school play facilities and needed to raise a substantial amount of money. I made a standard letter outlining what we wanted to do and why and sent it to anyone and everyone that we could think of. It is surprising what offers come back - many were cheques, vouchers to use as prizes for raffles etc as well as offers of help. Write to local leisure centres and get free passes for swimming and activities. Local golf clubs gave us vouchers for lessons. Cinemas and theatres gave tickets and passes as did the bowling alley, quad bike circuit and childrens farm attractions.
You could use the stuff as prize draw prizes - people think that they are getting a better prize from prize draws and give each scout/cub so many books each to sell {we got our tickets printed free by a local printer when we explained why we wanted them:cheesy:}
You could have a slave auction if you can get the parents interested.:party05:
My brain hurts now but give me a shout if I can help in any way.**5**

WOW thanks patti!!!!
The problem we have is that it is asbestos in the roof hence why its SO expensive, there is NO WAY that anyone else other than fully qualified people can have a go at sorting it. - tbh knowing what my dad is going through right now puts me off the stuff for life I wouldnt want anyone else exposed to it as the damage reveals itself much later on!
All hel gratefully recived. I have to write a letter to all the parents to see who else is going to joinMyself and Charley (marcs little sister) on the committee! LOL
