..this is still a lovely thing to do.
Real Madrid and England soccer star David Beckham and his wife Victoria have footed he bill to buy a £2,500 state-of-the-art wheelchair for a disabled girl.
The mother of the five-year-old girl has praised the couple.
Heather Allinson, 40, of Rockland St Mary, Norfolk, said a friend had written to Beckham asking for an autograph which could be auctioned to raise money to buy the chair for her daughter Lucy, who has cerebral palsy.
Instead the family was contacted by Mrs Beckham's mother, Jackie Adams, who said the couple wanted to foot the bill.
"I just want to say thank you. This is really nice of them," Heather said.
"We'd only asked if he would autograph something we could raffle. We never dreamed they'd offer to pay.
"They sent a cheque through Victoria's mother and Lucy now has her wheelchair. I can't thank them enough.
"You hear so many negative things about them. I just wanted people to know what they had done."
