Do you mean soaking in the bucket? I don't. I prefer to dry pail them (ie leave them dry in the bucket). Modern washing machines and detergents don't need the nappies to have been soaking in the bucket.

I do use a pre-wash setting on my washing machine that gives the nappies a good rinse through before the warm water has chance to set the stains in.

Another dry pailer here. Idont even prerinse. Stick them on the line in the sun or on a windowsill once dry and the stains are bleached out naturally.

Nothing. Just dry pail and then stick them in the washer at 30 degress with no softner.

I dry pail but I put any pooey nappies in the loo to soak for a bit, then hold them in the flush before transferring to the bucket. Seems to work well, just as well seeing as someone poos about 4 times a day!

oops, why did I start talking about fairy hammocks, on a what do you soak them in thread??

I use bio-d nappy soak - eco friendly and made in Hull so no air miles either. I don't always soak though and have 2 buckets a soak for dirties and not for wets. Posted a similar Q months ago and basically experimented using different advice!

After a while you don't mind the odd stain cos it does generally come out if you're lucky enough to get some sun, or on the next wash ...

I use tesco non-bio, or bio d washing liquid, depending on what's in cupboard, both work very well. Tried the balls (forgotten name) once but they didn't work so just use them on clothing ...

I dry pail - I we have a really pooey nappy I hold it in the flush to get most of it off, leave it in the loo to soak as long as poss and then do a final rinse in the flush before transferring to the bucket. This seems to be really effective at preventing stains and I've found I don't need to do a pre-rinse in the machine
