Ithink there is a new email scam/virus going around

I had an email today saying that 'Julie' wishes to be added as a friend on Facebook.

Its not a friend request when i checked on facebook (i went direct and not through the link in the email).

And facebook normally quote the whole name and not just the christian name.

Seems a bit dodgy so watch out!

Is there a link on the email? What happens when you click the link?

I dont click links that seem dodgy - especially when i can get to facebook through the proper link.

I have had a few through email, but like you I have not clicked it, then I have logged into facebook and there is no request for this "friend" on there.

If the email looks the same as the others that come through I just click on it, I can always tell when I get there if it's a genuine link or not.
I can never find the right place when I sign into facebook. As long as you don't put any personal information into a link you've clicked on if it doesn't look right.

I always log directly into Facebook and see what notifications I have rather than clicking on any links - thanks for the warning though hun x

Of course that means if the link leads to a virus installer you could get caught, especially if it's one that AVG doesn't know about (it happens more than you'd think)
