The political world has come together to pay tribute to a "brilliant" politician after former foreign secretary Robin Cook died from a heart attack.

The 59-year-old Labour MP was mountain walking with his wife and friends along the summit of Ben Stack in the Highlands when he collapsed.

Mr Cook, who was with his second wife Gaynor, was taken by air ambulance to a hospital in Inverness at around 2.30pm.

It is thought they had to ask other walkers to dial 999 for help as they had no means of communication themselves.

Mr Cook, MP for Livingston since 1983, is believed to have been conscious when he was taken to Raigmore Hospital in Inverness, but was pronounced dead at 4.05pm.

I meant to post about this yesterday ...

Think he was one of the "good guys" in politics - I'm sure he will be sadly missed.

Its always a shock when someone relatively young dies suddenly.

He died doing something he loved, and hopefully didnt suffer too much, which is the best way to go IMO

I was shocked when i heard the news.

I really admire him for taking a stand against the goverment, for what he believed was right and wrong.

RIP

Does anyone else think what John McCririck said at Robin Cooks funeral was the completly wrong time and place to be making such a scathing attack on Tony Blair??

:iagree:

I have to say though that i think he had a fair point, but there is a time and a place and he was wrong to say it then.
