One dies in fire at resort hotel

I couldn't believe this when I woke up and saw it on the news this morning, I hope they don't find the 6 missing people dead in the building

I saw this this morning - was worried a) for the people involved and b) we have a lot of customers who also own hotels aswell as the coaches and one of our faves has just bought a large hotel in Newquay.

My thoughts are with all involved and am glad the firefighters were able to remove themselves prior to the hotel collapse. I just hope that, whilst awful, they are able to locate the other guests that are missing, whether on this side now or not so their families can have closure.

Awful, you would think with sprinkle systems etc this sort of thing wouldn't happen. I expect as the guest were elderly it would have been harder for them to get out. I hope they find that they have just overlooked the one that are missing and they haven't perished.

Apparently the hotel was subject to a break in the previous evening (which the police aren't linking to the fire atm) but also, which I find horrifying, is that the fire escape out the back was wooden!!!

OMG! you would have thought that common sense would have come through and made sure that the wooden fire escape was commented on and fixed asap... not good at all!!!!

Thats what horrified me the most - and the fact they were allowed to be open with that as a fire escape even after fire officers etc have to visit to certify you etc.

In a time when Health and Safety seems to be the huge thing atm, you'd think this would be a major issue they'd pick up on to be sorted out.
