Don't let people owe you money. If they don't pay put them on stop or they will be a pain.

Thats from my Dad he is an accountant!!

No one definitive piece comes to mind but two general pieces of advice I took that have been superb are:

1) PLAN - take the time to plan your business before you spend even a single penny, I read somewhere that most successful businesses end up completely different from the first initial idea because they change so much during the planning phase. Certianly true of my business and it's meant that although it's taken me longer to get money coming in what I've got is good solid foundations to really build on and several options for where to take the business in the future. The success rate of those than plan is massively higher than those that dont.

2) Do something you enjoy - working 16hrs a day 7 days a week between the kids and the business is really draining but because I really love the things I sell, to the people I sell to it's spurred me on.

Few here:-

1) do something (no matter how small) to promote your business each and every day.

2) if you don't love what you do, don't bother, because when the going gets tough if you aren't totally committed you won't overcome the hurdles.

3) network with others, working from home can be incredibly lonely - build up a bank of people you can swap experiences with.

I will post some more if I think of them.
