Sniffer Dogs Find Blood Traces' 07/08/07

It is claimed that British sniffer dogs found tiny specs of dried blood during a sweep of the Algarve flat where the McCanns stayed. Madeleine’s parents, Gerry and Kate, said they still believed their daughter was alive. Sky's Amanda Walker reports.

The blood could have been there for ages before they even stayed there if not then it is very odd.

I don't know about anyone here but I've stayed in countless villas where you can see where mosquitoes have been squished against the walls and there are specks of blood left. It could be something as simple as that maybe? Fingers crossed.

I don't think it was that you can see any blood but that the special dog that our police took over could smell it?

Family Anger At Press 'Smear' Campaign

Updated: 13:11, Thursday August 09, 2007
<H2>Madeleine McCann's parents have criticised new reports claiming that police believe their daughter was murdered rather than abducted.

Newspapers in Portugal have printed a series of allegations contradicting the official stance that the four-year-old was snatched from her family's holiday flat.
They say detectives now believe she died in the apartment in the Algarve village of Praia da Luz on the night of May 3.
Police also no longer think that Robert Murat, the only official suspect in the case, was involved, according to the reports.
DNA analysis of blood traces found in the holiday apartment is now being carried out at a Birmingham laboratory.
One paper has even suggested police "intercepted" emails and phone calls between parents Kate and Gerry McCann and the friends on holiday with them when Madeleine vanished.
Family friends have said they are disgusted about what they said was a smear campaign against them.
Rachael Oldfield, who ate with the McCanns on the night Madeleine disappeared, told the Evening Standard newspaper: "I think there are some leaks coming from the police because a lot of what I have read recently has been completely untrue.
"Whether a journalist has had a bit of information and made the rest up, or the police are feeding some truths or untruths, I just don't know."
A McCann family spokesman said the couple had always collaborated with the Portuguese police "to the fullest extent".
"Some of the statements which have been made, that the police now regard it as definitely a murder case rather than abduction, we regard as speculation because that is not what the police are saying to the McCanns," he said.
A DNA sample taken from a restaurant in Tongeren, close to the Dutch border, where a woman reported seeing Madeleine with a suspicious couple, has been found to be that of a man.
But investigators said the findings did not rule out that Madeleine was present and said they were still hunting the couple's black Volvo car.

What I don't understand is if they had a view of the villa from where they were sitting why did no one see someone breaking in?

cos they apparently broke in either the window at the side where the shutters were..or..as madelienes mum had said,,they left the patio doors unlocked
but police said the shutters at the side where her parents didnt have a view of had been opened

just read this.....

Madeleine McCann's parents should leave Portugal and go home, according to the lawyer for the only official suspect in the case of the missing four-year-old.

Under attack: McCanns not leavingFrancisco Pagarete said people in the Algarve resort of Praia da Luz want the couple to go because they are suffering financially from a dip in tourism.

He said locals think the McCanns "should just go away and leave this town. They are giving it a bad name".

poor things...giving their town a bad name,...we cant be having that can we 2006argh

I am on the fence when it comes to accusing the parents..if the portuguese police had done their job properly we could be alot further ahead now. The blood could be anyones....and as for the media accussing them i think everyone is just listening to them and climbing on the band wagon...not guilty until proven..just like robert murat
just my opinion anyway :kisshands:

Just seen this on website, I'm sorry but how could they have left those three little ones on their own, its the first time I have seen the distance they were away, I always imagined they were very close and had a direct view to the apartment that's why I couldn't understand how someone had got in unnoticed!

McCanns' Anger Over Police Interview

Updated: 16:57, Sunday August 12, 2007
Madeleine McCann's parents were not told by a Portuguese police chief that he would go public with his belief that the youngster is dead, it has emerged.

A family friend said it was "extraordinary" the police had "not had the decency" to tell the couple they now believed Madeleine could be dead before giving interviews to the media.

Speaking on the 100th day of Madeleine's disappearance from an Algarve hotel, Chief Inspector Olegario Sousa said he believed the four-year-old may not be alive.

The acknowledgement threatens to open up a rift between the McCanns and police.

The senior officer's comments appear to contradict the message that the McCanns, from Rothley, Leicestershire, have been receiving from investigators.

On Tuesday, Mrs McCann said police had told her only the previous week that they were "looking for a living child".

But Mr Sousa said new evidence suggesting Madeleine was killed was being investigated with "intensity".

"In these past few days, there have been some developments, and some clues have been found, that could point in a possible death of the little child," he said.

Sniffer dogs last week discovered blood specks on a wall in the McCanns' holiday flat in the resort of Praia da Luz.

The samples have been sent to Britain for DNA tests, which are expected to be returned early this week.

Mr Sousa also said the McCanns and the seven friends with them on holiday when Madeleine disappeared on May 3 were not considered suspects.

That contradicted unconfirmed reports in Portuguese papers suggesting they were now under suspicion.

On Saturday, the McCanns attended a poignant service for Madeleine and other missing children in the church of Nossa Senhora da Luz in Praia da Luz.

Clutching her daughter's favourite soft toy, Mrs McCann made an emotional appeal for people to keep supporting her and her husband through their "journey of hope".

the investigation has only got better since the british police have gone over with sniffer dogs etc

I dont understand how they could have left their children either, having been abroad with little ones myself, i always got my to have afternoon naps then we would all go out together on an evening.
Maybe because they had been there quite a few times in the past they had become a bit complacent iyswim
Still no excuse though
