Hi all, I have a lovely tropical fish tank with lovely fish, Only thing is my darling Boyfriend decided we would go to the river and collect some lovely rocks to go in it, i got them home, scrubbed them and soaked them in boiling hot water from the kettle for 2 days, thats where they are still as im scared to put them in the tank just in case it kills my fish, anyone know if it should be ok???:help10:"Feedback"

It really should be okay as long as you have soaked them well, which you have. The bigger problem happens with rocks from the sea as they absorb all that salt which obviously is no good for your fish. With the river ones you really should be fine .... just check that you and your boyfriend clearly remember that the water was clear, with no pollution (oil, petrol etc ... you can see it if it's there on the surface of the water). If he and you remember none, and when you boiled them there was no residue on the top of the water, then your fishies have some lovely new rocks!!!
Hope they like them!!
I'd have thought they be ok as well!

Maybe thats why all our fish keep dying.
Tyler collects rocks from the beach near us and then puts them in the tank. Didn't even think about washing them or anything..... :fryingpan: what am I like.

I made the same mistake when I first had my tropical tank. Don't know about you, but I think you get prettier ones from the beach than the river too! But the same applies, boil them twice t0 ensure all toxins are out, then they should be fine. I did this with mine and all fishies were fine.

How bad do I feel now!! We bought some new ones on Tylers birthday and then went down the beach on the same day, Tyler picked out some shells and a couple of stones and popped them in, then a few days later 4 of the 7 we bought died! Opps..
