Have you heard about the recent trend in parent coaching that is hitting the UK?
Would you know what to use a parent coach for?
Whether they are worth hiring?
And what would be involved?
Well, at mumszone we have been talking to the UK’s most established parent coaching organisation (infact according to Radio 4 recently they are the only bona fide one!) about just this….
The Parent Coaching Company opened its doors in 2002 to service this need and now two years later they are expanding fast to keep up with demand. ‘We had no idea when we started’ says CEO Sharon Charlton-Thomson quite how many parents would contact us, but in the years we have been in business we have built relationships with almost 1,000 parents in the UK and abroad.’
The company is very clear about its remit; ‘We strive to be the most professional partner a parent could want; we are not about support on how to change a nappy, or how to handle the 3am feeds, but support for those who care deeply about parenting and want to raise happy, confident children – those who want parenting to be a big part of their lives, but not all of their life; those who want to make improvements to the way that they parent now and be the parent they want to be.’
Charlton-Thomson, founder of the company and CEO knows how important credibility is. Parents need to trust that they are working with professionals and so we are passionate about working with quality people. All our coaches are professional trained in coaching and in facilitating parenting skills, many, including Sharon, are also trained in psychology and family work.
“Most parents have one thing in common, and that is they want to do the best for their children,†comments Sharon “The art of parenting is simply the ability to give your child the tools to succeed in life. Yet it often feels far from simpleâ€.
Parents come to us about many different issues, some of the most common ones we hear about are parents who have lost themselves when they became a parent, and don’t feel like the person they once were, parents struggling with the demands of raising spirited children, families coping with conflict where home life feels like a constant battle ground and one that is increasingly common is parents who don’t feel good enough in their parenting.
