I have posted this on another forum I use, but I could use as many suggestions as possible. :-)

I've taken some pictures of my new office (I'm not the greatest photographer). I'd like some suggestions/ideas as to how I should decorate the office and what sort of desk/storage etc I should get. I want the office to be calming but not so calming that I don't want to work. I'm not into bright colours - more neutral stuff.

Arianna's New Office (http://www.arianna.org.uk/album/images/index.htm)

So flooring suggestions, paint suggestions, furniture, storage etc.

Keep in mind I do a lot of work on the pc and usually have a lot of client paperwork in the office as well. So I'd need storage for client paperwork and bookkeeping stuff, as well as some storage for the jewellery business as well - so stock, envelopes, boxes etc.

Thanks for the suggestions folks! I've just drawn a total blank!

Arianna

PS those cupboards normally have counter tops on them, but we had to take the counter tops off to move things around as the counter tops just sat on top of them and went the length of the room (in the old house).

Depends on what your budget is, I guess.

I like the idea of laminate flooring in an office space.

Do you want modern or more traditional type storage? Is there anything in Ikea for example, that you like ...

No idea what the budget is as of yet - just looking for various ideas really and then I'll figure out what I can afford. :D

Hm let's see I probably like more traditional stuff - but it has to be functional. I haven't looked at IKEA yet but I will go and have a look on the site.

I've just drawn a total blank as to what to do with the office and DH says it's mine so I can do as I wish with it. :D

What about something like this:-

http://www.viking-direct.co.uk/catalog/catalogSku.do;jsessionid=000092PoVMDFcrRmiUiqNrHFy mF:11g06dj48?id=9204041&pr=Q27&N=2%20294&sgID=2

or covering a whole wall with this:-

that would give you loads of storage

This is quite good too.

I would definately go for a wooden floor, much easier to work on!

Oh wow lots of good ideas there hun! Thank you so much!

I'll show DH the links to see what he thinks and also how it would fit in the office - not sure of the size of it. LOL

I have a tiny computer desk (bah I miss my big office desk!!) but loads of cupboards and storage. If you ring Viking they have a specific furniture catalogue which is dozens of more styles. I have mainly low units (low filing draws that are wide rather than tall) and low storage cupboards and they stack on each other, I've also got two big book cases and lots of plastic draw units for the stock.

Walls - keep fairly nutral - mine are pale purple and pale blue.

Most importantly - light and lots of it - my office is way to dark for my liking and I miss having natural sunlight.

I don't know if we're going to keep the cupboards yet - I think it depends on what we can find to replace them with.

I've already told DH that there will be a blind on that window so I can moderate how much sun comes in as sometimes in the old house I couldn't see my laptop screen. LOL

I'm going to need a biggish workspace - so I can spread out client paperwork as I didn't have the space to spread out in the old house.

I might just do that and get the catalogues.

The room does get a lot of light during the day which is great so that will be a bonus as well. :D

I like the plain tabletops and legs that Ikea do, and their Ivar shelving is basic but v flexible. Laminate flooring can be very cold (we have underfloor heating under ours) so I'd go for a light, natural carpet, something like sisal maybe. Or get UFH ;)

Argh there are so many choices I can't make up my mind what I want. LOL Oh well I have at least 4 weeks to decide anyway as DH needs to be able to walk before it can be done. Think it's going to involve a lot of researching. :D
