Has anyone got any experience of Jack Russels and children?

I must admit I am very wary of terriers with children - and have just found out my in-laws have bought a Jack Russel pup.

Are my fears unfounded?

Feels like it's just a matter of time before it bites one of the kids....

My Mum and Dad have a juck russel and a bijon friese. when I had ds, we had a travel cot so the dogs could see smell and get used to ds without getting close. Once they were used to him they were fine. Do they have a babygate or something to keep the dogs in a room until they get used to the children? Also make sure the children know how to act around the dog.

Thanks HP.....

They both have experience of dogs - but we had a Cavalier Kind Charles Spaniel, and they are soppy as anything...

my mum had terriers and tbh we didn't leave them alone with the kids, mostly they are soft as a brush but they are terriers and they will need a lot of introducing to the kids, but saying that, every dog is different and every dog has a point at which they will get violent....hope everything goes ok hun x x x

So long as it's well trained and socialised from an early age and the children are respectful of the puppy and what it wants/needs then you shouldn't have any problems! Any dog can bite if it isn't brought up/socialised correctly regardless of the breed. I'm sure everything will be fine. :happy72:

i agree with angel but i really dont like jack russels. i know someone who had them when i was a teenager and thought they were nippy horrbile dogs.

i love our cavalier he is just so soppy and the kids can pull him around and he doesnt care. if he's had enough he justs goes in his bed.

Well - have met the JR is question now - who seems really sweet!

MIL agrees that we should take the 'softly softly' approach with introducing it to the children. We're also gonna have to introduce it to the cats at some point, coz we'll be asked to look after it while they're away.

Watch this space.....
