:ac39: DS has still got nappy rash, I've just ordered some silk liners in the hope that they will work. Our Gp perscribed a horrid yellow ointment which has meant I haven't been able to use Fuzzis and have had to use disps, but it still is there. I'm not sure if it is because he is teething.
I'm getting fed up cos poor baby keeps saying sore sore and I seem to be powerless. He is with a childminder all day and I keep reminding her that he has a sore bot and needs changing more often and I think she is, she can't leave him without a nappy as she has 2 dogs and the garden has toys and the occasional dog poo on it if she has not cheked the lawn.
I've tried, cammolie, lavender, calendula and keeping nappy off but it isn't for long, and bathing
Can't use sudocream and I don't use soap powder
Why does nappy rash make you feel like a failure?

Hi
I really feel for you. My son suffers terribly when he is teething. Try using your fuzzis but with a flushable paper liner in them to stop the cream getting onto the fleece (is it Timodene) but if it does soak in a hot water solution with strong soda crystals in them.
It may be that you need to get a bacterial washing powder to wash your nappies in and nuke them at 90 just to remove any bacteria in the nappies. I could send you some of what we use in the laundry it kills eveything including MRSA so if they have bugs they will be gone. The powder kills at 40 washes too!!
I wash about 5000 fuzzis a week so i'm quite good at most stain removal now.
Is your doctor sure its not thrush as that what owen gets when teething it starts as soreness then develops into thrush. I normally put Canesten on him just in case as it won't do any harm and if it is thrush it will stop it.
Please Pm me if you want any more help

Ummm as per traditional practice, I used baby powder on DS's botty until he was about 2.5 months when he started having spots, which then became sore, reddish and broke-out into watery rash IYKWIM. Then I started him on Drapolene Cream, and voila, it healed within three days, and he's on Drapolene till now, and has had a happy botty :D ever since!

Firstly, do NOT feel like a failure cos you are not, all babies get nappy rash at some point in their lives, whether in disps or cloth.
As to suggestions, I swore by Weleda Nappy Change Cream which is calendula based and has to be the best one I have ever used (tried a few but keep coming back to that one), with this used at every change we have had virtually no nappy rash at all for either of the F's.
One thing I will say, which is a wee bit controversial, is that some babies do not get on too well with fleece, especially in hotter weather. It is plastic and as such can cause the nappy area to become sweaty and create nappy rash that way. If your baby is sensitive, the same could be said of some disps.
I was talking to a supplier about fleece for nappies a while back and she was surprised that it is used at all, because the loose fibres can harbour bacteria (she works in the field of fabrics for medical applications) so I would second Sara's suggestion of blasting them in a mega hot wash just to be sure that none remain.
I have also found silk liners to be useful (until I killed them by washing them in too hot a wash lol).
Also make sure your machine is rinsing thoroughly - if you have an extra rinse option it might be well worth using that to ensure that the soap has all gone.
Probably not all that much help, I hope you find something soon as I know it isnt nice,
good luck

hiya i have a few suggestions cos my daughter got terrible rash only when in disposables.
1) was your cloth at 90oc to remove any bugs. thrush loves to breed in cloth nappies and an occasional hot wash and sun line dry will kill it.
2) try a traditional remidy - callendula tea bath = really soothing, paint egg white on lo's bum and let it air dry this gives a good barrier.
3) keep them nappy fre as much as is possible to let them heal
4) silk liners are great i use them when dd now gets the odd occasion of teething rash.
5) the cream (is it timodene?) i have used it with cloth and just had to do an extra hot wash to remove it!
6) try a water based nappy cream - conotrane or drapolene cos if litte ones bums is really sore then the oil based ones wont stick to the sore bits and will just soak into the nappy. water based will soak into the skin!
hope some if this helps. i really feel for you. dd used to bleed from her nappy rash and it wasnt until i switched to cloth that it started to get better! try your hardest to keep your little one in cloth as i personally dont think that the chemicals in sposies help heal baby at all!

Thanks everyone.
Nappy rash has gone!!!
DS is back in Fuzzis. I gave them a really hot wash and some extra rinses. Since then the nappy rash has got better so I'm not sure of it was the nappies or teething.
I also have got some silk liners ready for the next nappy rash and will try some of the other creams mentioned.
DS new fav word is no and not sore !
