I've found a few clients have problems with paypal at times - from it not letting people log into their accounts, to it freezing on them partway through payment etc.

Having said that I've also had reports of problems with protx, worldpay and nochex too so I don't think its restricted to paypal only - there does seem to be a slightly higher occurance of it though.

Hope you can get it sorted...

Nochex are pretty good and I use both paypal and nochex. How annoying, I'm sorry can't help much with the techy side of things as I am bloomin useless !

Ideally i'd use a bank to go through - i think they look more professional and if i ever make enough money i will move.

BUT they are a lot more expensive than pay pal ( i'm not sure about nochex as ive never used them) Theres a set up fee, monthly fee as well as charges each time!

Thanks guys.
I have been looking at various options but most of them involve cost !! Maybe i will put something on the shopping basket to tell the buyers if they have any problems.

You dont have to pay a set up fee with Nochex, just a transaction charge. I havent had any problems with them (so far)

I've not lost a single sale since i moved from nochex to protx but yesterday and the day before paypal lost two, which was most annoying.

Still can't decide whether to remove paypal totally or not; the fees are huge but i know i like to find paypal on a site sometimes when i can't be bother to hunt for my card, so it's a toughie.

Hope you saved your sale?

I can acredit real tangible growth with the time I started to take "proper" credit card payments.

What about looking at PayPal Pro? https://www.paypal.com/uk/cgi-bin/webscr?cmd=_wp-pro-overview-outside.

I have had a few issues with my merchant facility and reluctantly looked at PP Pro as an alternative along with a large number of other alternatives

It isn't as cheap as some of the merchant accounts but it isn't as expensive as some either.

The problem often is getting a merchant account when it is a new or young business. The options therefore are relatively limited - WorldPay is the biggest option as that has an integrated merchant facility. With Protx you need a merchant account so that is £20 a month for Protx PLUS merchant facilities (ie, HSBC, Streamline, etc) and they take a %age charge.

Anyway, PP Pro provides you with the merchant facility, the virtual terminal (so you can take credit card transactions over the phone), NO set up costs, NO minimum contracts for £20 a month plus the %age of the orders.

I've been installing it today and so far I'm quite impressed - I'm still in testing mode with it but it seems to work well.

It actually works within the framework of your shop so nobody needs to know that you are using PayPal.

I'm having a few integration problems atm which is the fault of my shop providers I think but they are working on it (the transaction isn't going through the secure server) so it is in test mode but you can see how it works - just don't pay for anything!!!

At checkout select the option that says pay by credit card (but not the Protx one) to see how it can work. Don't click on pay by paypal.

Hth.

I found I was having loads of problems with paypal.I added worldpay only this week.It took them about a week to activate it form me applying online. So far I have had twice as many sales.Although some are stilling using paypal which is fine.
I was kindly told by a girl in my bank though, when she was stamping verification for worldpay, about pp pro by paypal.! Too late now though.!
But I would certainly think about adding something to process cards and not just rely on paypal alone.
