This is from a site I do actually trust and a writer I respect

The "bomb" wouldn't have exploded, might have made a pretty fireball, but no rip roaring devasting explosion!
I was cynical about the whole thing from very early on when I read that witnesses had seen someone "removing" gas cylinders from the car, if they wanted a bang, why take out the bit they thought would make it go bang?
I do think someone somewhere wants us to be scared, and the media love it, so they never stop to consider if there was a realistic threat.

pete, a cynical view? really? how can you possibly be cynical about this hype?:hysterica
honestly, i do think that the security things like mi5 do a great job, but i do think that there are lots of things that could possibly maybe be staged just to get more media hype.

my dh says it is in the governments interest for us all to be scared, he agrees, he was saying this last night.

he doesn't believe that men landed on the moon!
Now I could have fun debating that one
I've seen the arguments against man landing on the moon, and they're very flaky

I always wonder about these controlled explosions - I'm probably being thick here, but how can a controlled explosion differ so much from the explosion that was supposedly going to occur if the bomb had detonated on its own? I'm just glad I live down here, well away from that kind of thing (although it could happen anywhere I know, but less likely here I think)

I think the idea of a controlled explosion is that they set another explosive device next to the bomb which when it blows up destoys the bomb
it shouldn't set the bomb off itself as it's only a small explosion. Most explosives are nowhere near as volatile as hollywood makes them out to be.
