I knew he had been ill and had recently had heart surgery but still a bit of a shock as he was only 61.

I had heard they were having guest presenters on Coundown, but didn't realise .....

Its very sad. I grew up with him on my TV as Yorkshire TV's local news presenter. Countdown kept my brain working while pregnant and being at home with 2 babies-it wont be the same without him.

I always watched Countdown when ds was a baby - when he started crawling he would go towards the television as soon as he heard the music, lol.

I used to find him (Richard) really annoying when he was on the news, Toni, but as I grew older I started to appreciate him more. He was a very witty and entertaining, I'm sure he will be greatly missed.
