Hi,
Well done for making the decision to use cloth. Rather than write lots of stuff here that you may or may not already know, take a look at my advice section, that explains a bit about some of the terminology you will here and give you an overview of some of the basic sorts of nappies etc, and then when you have more specific questions either email me or come back here and myself and many others will be able to help.

I waited till my babes arrived before ordering - you might find you get on with some reusables better than others, so recommendations are definitely a help too - I use fuzzi bunz with Liam now and find them brilliant, but each are different. You can also get them cheaper second hand now too (I think some have been listed in classified on here hun) so you may want to have a look at those too

The birth to potty kits tend to be one size nappies, so should fit throughout (you fold the waist down when they are small). However, I know some people that have said the MotherEase One Size didn't fit until they were potty trained, and when they are tiny the One Size look huge on a tiny baby. However, they do work out cheaper than the sized nappies (where you have to buy more as your baby grows).
Many people do buy all of the same nappy and get on with it really well. Others prefer to have a mixture and use some nappies particularly for night or on long journeys, and have other thinner ones for daytime use.
It seems that the Bamboozles are the most popular nappy I stock. Customers that have used size 1 ALWAYS come back for size 2 and are always singing their praises so they must be good. They are extremely absorbent and look cute too, but they take an absolute age to dry so if your drying facilities are limited then perhaps a bamboo nappy isn't for you.

you're lucky your council offers some incentives - a lot don't - as discussed on here too!
I've still got 4 weeks til DD but determined not to use disposables so we've been buying different types so we can see what we like and then for the next size get those ones, apparently you will find you like some more than others.
Because of the cost we've got some from ebay (although be careful because some end up as much as buying new) and the www.usednappies.co.uk website (it was set up because ebay won't sell used). They are very clean though, unmarked, etc. Have 4 kushies, 2 tots bots, 5 sandy's new born and a pack of bambino mio's so far. I've spent a long time weighing up each using the net - in fact it's how I came across this website - asking a similar question ...

Well done for taking the first step. Being totally upfront, I do sell nappies but some general advice:
We suggest to pregnant families that it is a good idea to buy 2 or 3 or 2 or 3 types of nappies - eg 2 or 3 one size plus 2 or 3 sized nappies etc. Mother Ease and Tots Bots are very popular makes as are the Fuzzi Bunz that have already been mentioned.
The reason is that each baby and family is different - I can say hand on heart that a one size was the best nappy for my daughter but it may not be for you.
So, if you buy a few nappies to get you going, you will be able to try the different ones out and see what works for you.
Also, I know that they seem very expensive to buy, but they do save a fortune in the long run - you would spend around £200-300 on the cloth nappies and bits to get you to potty training and as much as £1200 on disposables!
If you start off slowly, you can make sure that you invest your money wisely and buy a couple more each week or so and then it doesn't seem to be as bad.
If you have a look at the articles section on our site, you will find lots more information but don't be afraid to phone the shop if you need some more advice.

I love Stuffienappies which Lottie who is a member here makes - you'll need a wrap with those but they are brill. I also love Swaddlebees (http://www.kipskabin.co.uk/product_info.php?cPath=13&products_id=38) organic velour and a lot of people really like Fuzzi Bunz (http://www.kipskabin.co.uk/index.php?cPath=13_32) which are on offer at my suppliers at the moment - if you buy 6 or more they are cheaper. The new Mommys Touch (http://www.kipskabin.co.uk/index.php?cPath=13_34) are lovely too.

Good luck with your hunt for finding the best cloth nappy for you! There are just so many to choose from. I agree with the person from "natural nursery" and would buy 2 or 3 different types, just to try, before buying a whole set. I think disposables are good at first as many one-sized nappies are quite bulky on new borns and I had problems with them catching on his tummy button. motherease and tots bots are good. I went for a mix and match lot in the end, using mainly terry squares. There are several websites that offer advice for you. www.thenappylady.co.uk is good as is cuddlebabes.(co.uk?) – there are loads more I’m sure. You could try a few second hand (although if you getting many back from the council you will need a receipt). There is a second hand section to thenappylady. You could also try www.usednappy.co.uk or www.thenappysite.co.uk. These don't offer advice, but you can pick up a bargain.
Hope my garbled message made sense!
Good luck.
