I've been saying for years that OAP's need to have further tests - I worked in a filling station when I was 16 and will never forget a customer we had in once. He tried to fill his car up but was having difficulties so I got my workmate to go and check on him, my workmate came back in white as a sheet and when I asked him what was wrong he said the guy was keeping his eyes open with sellotape. I thought he was joking until the man came in, he had obviously had a stroke and was using sellotape to hold open one of his eyelids. Absolutely terrifying that he was allowed to drive like that.
Mind you, I think everyone should resit their driving test after 10 years, not a full test but just to see how you are driving itms, people pick up far too many bad habits and a test would remind us how we should be driving. However, I really think older people should be tested more frequently, reaction times slow as we age and this needs to be kept up in order to drive competently. It's not as if we're just talking about driving, we're talking about risking lives.
