I've put this here, not in website reviews, because it's not finished yet (shopping cart etc isn't functional- it'll be linked to paypal when live) . This site will replace the old Chiggs site, it's at www.new-baby-gift.net
Old site was done by a designer and it's expensive to have anything altered, so we've done our own!(Dh did the work, I interfered and changed my mind a lot :cheesy: )
I'd be very grateful for any opinions - what does/doesn't 'work' for you, any typos, etc.
TIA!!

My first impression was that I felt a bit overwhelmed by the text. I think if some of it were boxed it may make it easier to read.
There are also a fair old amount of font sizes and colours can you calm that down as its a bit confusing.
I cant work out if its supposed to be set to left of the browser as some of the text is centered.
I like the swirly logo. hope that helps and look forward to seeing it develop.

I have to agree with Jazz - the text really needs to be boxed which isn't difficult to do.
You need to view it through different browsers - the text spacing looks very different in Internet Explorer 7 for example to Firefox.
On the plus side your layout is very easy to use.

Just to add I'm viewing in Safari (Mac default browser)

I looked earlier on using Firefox, on the press page one of the bits of text on the right was on top of the magazine image.
I am now at work using IE and its fine. The site looks good. Are you staying with that domain or will it go back to Chiggs?
Someone on BGH was looking for you, I posted your link.

First impressions - nice and clean - I love your logo!
I too think that the text needs to be boxed in somehow - it just looks too busy - have you thought about perhaps using a cleaner font? Like Calibri or Veranda? It may make it appear less busy!
The testimonial page may look better if you were to seperate out each testimonial using a pink bar or even just dotted line! At the moment thay kinda blend into eachother a bit.
Otherwise it looks great! Well done!

Think you've done a really good job. My only comment would be that the homepage does look a bit too texty.

great feedback - thanks!
Dh will have a go at boxing in some of the text, try to 'clean' up the home page a bit
Chuffed to bits that you like the logo, as I designed it and it took dh an age to do :)
We'll look at it through diff browsers, sort that out.
Great idea about the testimonial page, thanks.

Thanks, Chell.
The idea is that this new site will become Chiggs - we're using this to practise on, while keeping Chiggs 'operational' (in case we broke it:cheesy: )

Hi Elizabeth
I love the new logo and the feel of the site, I do agree with the others about it being a bit texty - so says the person who has spent the last god knows how many weeks cutting out bits of text because I have verbal diahorrea!

Well after looking at it for an hour, I've managed to cut about 4 words :cheesy:
We'll try breaking the text on the home page with some pictures - I fancy little lines of mini 'wheels', but the IT manager doesn't seem impressed with that idea-grr.
The IT manager (he's recently been promoted from Chauffeur-and-Go-fer) has to go to rl work now, so I'll make a nice list of things for him to do when he gets up tomorrow!

I like the overall look (agree with the spacing comments etc) but it works in Opera, so that's good!

Right, we've reworked the home page, done some 'boxing' and tried to break up the text a bit.
Also divided the testimonials up, to make them easier to read.
Anything else anyone can think of? Is it clear what the 'wheels' are, and how they work?
Many thanks for everyones help, with this!

morning Chiggs -
You are going to hate me and feel free to ignore me but I think its a bit too much! Eeeek dont bash me!
It doesn't look balanced and its feels a bit unstructured, I think its because the boxes are all different sizes and the length of the test is different for each product.
To show you what I think may calm it down a bit I have quickly done a mock up. Feel free to pay no attention to me though! Its just publishing will get a link in min!...

Sorry but I agree with Jazz. There is too much info there. Do you need the sentence about trade orders on the homepage when its clearly linked at the side? It looks like you are trying to put everything on one page rather than throughout the site.

Thanks Jazz and Chell for your ideas- it's v. much appreciated.
Jazz, your 'mock up' home page is lovely, and made me realise how severe all the boxes looked!
We've tried to soften it up a bit, now, and although I've kept the blurb about trade customers in (because to be honest, that's the majority of the business, now!) I think (hope!!) it looks less texty than the first attempt.
I'm starting to dream about boxes and font size in my sleep now :)

It looks much better. :happy72: Can you level up the three bottom boxes? With them being at different heights they dance when I look at them. (might just be my dodgy eyesight )

http://www.new-baby-gift.net/new_baby_gifts.htm this page doesn't fit on my screen, I have to scroll to see the right hand side.
Can you get your DP to come and finish my site when he has done yours. Mine needs a kick up the bum.

I think its great though I'm not sure if I like the curly lines over the menu on the left hand side, sort of looks as if it's been crossed out itms.
Apart from that I think it looks great.
