...... do you think I need to change our site to a more appropriate name? How difficult would that be now?

Ravenfire

I did think about it with Mumszone to make it more parent friendly, however, its a really big thing to do, so much rebranding of everything, your site, your logos, any links you have elsewhere not to mention you have to start from scratch in the search engines again.

I think you've put so much effort into promoting Chelltune so far, that it would be an awful lot of hassle to change it now.

I know it doesn't describe your site but it is unique and fairly easy to remember. And if you'd have chosen something purely based on signing then that would have made less sense if you expanded into other areas.

Chell
28-04-2007, 07:27 PM
Thanks, when we bought the domain we had no idea what we were going to do. Names with signing it it would be hard to come up with as there are so many individual people who have a franchise with one of the big companies but their own local site.

I would say yes, as I was not really sure how to pronounce it. I know that sounds daft and now I know that your name is Chell I do know how to say it. Im not sure that what the 'tune' is a reference too though.

from an SEO perspective would it be beneficial?

knotjustjigs
28-04-2007, 07:30 PM
Why? i think yours is great! easy to remember and sounds friendly and personal.
I would imagine it would be a big task after all the hard work youve put in BUT knowing you you'd put in double time to get it back there again!

I wouldn't - you've gone to lots of effort with branding etc and PR so to change it would mean starting again there... If you are going to change it change now before doing anymore!

Look at the highsteet - how many companies there say what they sell?

Mmmm.... it's a difficult decision. A year into my site I decided to change from noposhbag to Character Kids but it really was alot of work. I think if you are planning to go forward and keep pushing your site then make a decision now and stick to it. It would be far harder to change in the future if you were very busy.

i quite like the name Chelltune... i think you should stick with it especially as you've done so much promotion with that name etc

I rebranded, but I did it slowly - it started by introducing the domain name identifyme.co.uk - mainly because IdentiKids was hooked up to a hosting I couldn't get out of for a while and it was delaying the launch of my last site. Then we sneakily changed the logo in the top left corner without making a fuss and not one person noticed. As I added links I made sure it mentioned IdentiKids and IdentifyMe because IdentiKids remained as a brand. Then we started answering the phone as IdentifyMe in February.

I've always had IdentifyMe as a limited company but it was dormant so during this downtime I have done a cross over and am in the process of changing banks as well.

From the first moment you signed up on mumszone and everytime I hear the name Chelltune I think of cars, don't know why but I think there used to be a car engine tuning place locally that probably had a similar name and that's what it reminds me of BUT that's just me

I think if you did change the name you might find it hard to come up with something to describe what you do that hasn't already been taken.

It would probably mean a lot of work with changing logos etc but if it's something that keeps playing on your mind and it won't go away until you change the name then go ahead and do it.

Chell how long have u been trading under that name? Do u have lots of established customers? If so i would not change! How annoying is it when u go to the supermarket and they have moved your favourite things? i personally think its the same with web sites. people will know ure banner and name and possibly not like the change.

what about picking a name to start with and running it alongside chelltune and revise after a couple of months, see where the traffic's going? If you put smallprint on the new one that it's a trading name of chelltune then you can use the same paperwork where necessary.

I still keep thinking about this. I really don't know what to do. I was saying to DP that perhaps I should buy a more appropriate domain name but direct it to Chelltune. For things like the writing on my car it would be better with a name containing what we do.

Arrrgggghhhhhhh

do you know what you would change it to if you did change the name

have you thought of any new names

you could buy a more appropriate domain name which contains keywords and point it to your own site

Chell

Thats what I thought I could do.

I am struggling to think of a name. I wouldn't really want baby in it as I want to offer products for babies and children. I aim to offer products for hearing and Deaf families so want it quite general in that sense. It can't have BSL in it as I now have Makaton items. I had thought of something like SigningMumsAndTots till I realised that discriminating :cheesy: That just went with the idea of baby signing being a Mums and Tots type group.

We changed our name and domain name after 7 months even though we had publicity materials, mentions in magazine articles and books, established customers on the site, eBay and Amazon and good Google rankings for a fair few keywords/products.

Sadie put a re-direct from the old domain to the new and I can honestly say that is hasn't affected anything at all. We've also now put the new logo up on the site prior to the re-design but had been using the new logo on parcels and packing slips since February.

I honestly don't think it will affect things for you at this stage if you do decide to change.

Good luck deciding what to do!

do you want something that has baby signing in it or something that doesn't restrict what you sell?

No, some of the products are just for babies but children too.

Sorry Chell, words really, really aren't my thing unless you're talking complex legal documents!

Have you tried putting a couple of keywords through a keyword estimator tool? That would spew out some other keywords and looking at a long list of related words may just give you some inspiration.

Chell
15-05-2007, 09:44 PM
I've been on a domain search thing for a while trying to think of something. I didn't think of trying a keyword estimator.

We have one of those toys in your avatar, it is so simple but both kids love it. :happy72:

I just love the OTT pushalongs and the new lions are soooo funky! I was very excited when the order arrived yesterday. We got the special display stand for them and have one of each set up on it and DS keeps giving them longing looks even he's 9! PMSL - I think its the noise he likes!

I always this short is good - and you could have, say, kidssign and totssign and babysign for different age groups.

Agre you might want this on private before someone swipes all your names!
