Just seen all this stuff on the news and no-one is saying anything. Is there a power station down there that might have gone bang ?

im from kent 20mins away from folkestone, im just listening to the news now. They think it is a tremer rather then an explosion.

if it has been an earthquake it's been a bad one, I still remember the 1979 Boxing day one up here, scared me sh*tless, I was only 5, was terrified in the dark the next night being driven home from my nanna's as i thought the road might crack open and we'd fall down it.

well I didnt feel it.
It was only 5 mins down the road too apparantly. Thank goodness is some respects.
Makes me laugh though that eurotunnel is not affected. kinda worrying that Folkestone was allegedly affected badly yet eurotunnel is ok. I suppose its because the earth tremor is under ground rather than under the sea.
Its mainly folkestone, dover that are affected I beleive but ive seen reports that it was felt in essex and suffolk too.

Yeah there were loads in the nights for about a week and a half. The main one was on a monday and as i say i was in work. I still remember the rumbling noise now.
Me and Arron had a few nightmares about them.
I think they were 3.9 on the scale so not quite as strong as the one today.
You dont expect them in England do you!

Must be very scary! DH was in Manchester when there was one there and he said its very frightening. The after shocks can also be quite bad.

my mum has just spoken to some people down the road and they say they felt it here in ashford about 8:15. I never felt anything and everything here seems to be ok.
hope everyone in folkestone is ok and safe, it sounds like there is a lot of chaso as no one really knows what to do.

hope everyone is ok
I live in folkestone... just after 8am I got up and was about to turn the tv on when i heard a massive crashing noise then everything started shaking... it was really quite scary. I just ran up the stairs calling to my sister and she said it had woken her up. Glad she was there as well or I wouldn't know what to do as the power was off and phones weren't working. we couldn't contact anyone for several hours!
luckly our house is ok.. my uncles chimney pot had come down. My parents said it sounded like a bomb going off over towards the channel tunnel but its turned out to be just an earthquake!

The aftershocks can be worse than the initial quake apparently. I read up on it all when we had the ones here!
Hope They arent as bad if they do get them.
