DH has just been telling me that he spoke with a lad from their head office today. His auntie made a purchase from Ebay but didn't go through Paypal, don't know how it was but she used her credit card direct with the seller. They have taken all her details and maxed the card to the limit. Obviously she has had the card stopped but has received a phone call from the people involved who have told her that unless she gets the card back into action and into the black, then they are going to come around and kill her. They have got her address, told her where she worked and what times she goes to work and finishes, what she has been doing throughout the weekend etc - obviously had someone watching her.

It appears that this scam is prevalent on Ebay at the moment and unfortunately Ebay don't want to know. The police are investigating but have been unable to track the individuals down. Just be careful if you do transactions like this.

OMG !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! I have to say I only use paypal or p/o on Ebay. That's so awful. I can't believe Ebay don't want to know about it, they make tons of money out of people the least they can do is try to protect its members from these kind of terrible threats.

Oh my, that is awful, the poor woman

why don't Ebay do something about this, they will get a bad reputation if they carry on letting people do this and then they will head down the pan :cheesy:

I personally think it's only a matter of time anyway.

**** That is awful!!!! Ebay are probably taking the view that if the transaction was made through them, even though it was initially listed with them, then its nothing to do with them, but they should be protecting the consumer! This is awful - I so hope these people are found quickly

that is an awful story! there are so many opportunities left wide open for scammers on ebay, there was one group of people selling cars for so many thousands of pounds and when the buyer turned up with the cash they'd mug them and drive off! you can't be too careful at all nowadays! i think unless ebay address all these scammers and find a way to stop them then ebay will go down the pan.......i'm very wary of dealing on ebay now.....

this is horrifying, truly. i cant actually believe that someone would call up and give their credit card details though...that to me would just spell disaster.
The poor woman must be terrified!

I've not heard of this before and it's shocking.

I'm selling less on ebay now, using MZ classfieds for bit and bobs . I've had a peek at QXl but am not convinced.

TBH i take cards over the phone for transactions, i thought you did too Jazz? correct me if i'm wrong! but i obviously shred any personal info given once transaction complete which is normally whilst the customer is on the phone, so its not unusual for purchases to be done this way but i cant believe ebay being such a big company and making vast amounts of money from both buyers and sellers are unwilling to help? have the police been informed?
Poor woman must be petrified!
