1. Name of Website and url - Kidz Fashion Zone, www.kidzfashionzone.co.uk

2. Type of business, and how long have you been in business for. - Online retailer of children's clothes, been in business since July 2004 (via Ebay) and the website was set up in Sep 06 and radically redesigned in Dec 06.

3. What software do you use - Oscommerce

4. Did you create the site yourself or use a web designer - Designed the site myself and beginning to think it needs the touch of a pro designer!

---------------------------------------------

I know I have asked for opinions of my website before but need some more feedback.

I changed the homepage today and removed the picture of the 3 kids and replaced them with some products. I would like to know if the site loads too slowly please.

I get loads of hits through organic searches via Google, Yahoo and MSN but not many sales.

What's wrong with the site, what's putting people off, are my products rubbish, are the prices cr@p.

I am going to add an 'About Us' page and a telephone number next week

right enough rambling! go on then hit me with your comments

Loaded fine, not slow at all. Just had another look and agree with Chell, i like to see whats new straight away, especially as i look regularly to see if there is anything i like for DS.

Good points:

It is far clearer than your last one
it loads far faster
i far prefer the buttons at the top (images of clothes) rather than the pics you had.. .
the white space down the side actually doesnt bother me much tbh

points:
there is a fairly large space on your homepage between the "welcome..." and the next bit of writing, could that be lost????

some of your images in the description - when you ask for an enlarged image they are actually not enlarged and can be dificult to see, that would put me off..

i hate the photo you have of the my way or no way top.. they arent the same size and it looks messy

looking through your sections some of them have lots of items, some have very few.. also with things like the boys one, it doesnt seem to be in age order which is offputting to me... I am a lazy shopper in many respects, i dont want to trawl through the page to find something of the right age...

I'm not sure how to get rid of it, will figure it out, it's there because when you are logged in you get your personalised welcome message but I suppose you don't really need that

some of your images in the description - when you ask for an enlarged image they are actually not enlarged and can be dificult to see, that would put me off.. reason being is because some of the images are of the manufacturers website as they are far better than any i can take, don't know how to sort that as I'm cr@p at taking photos

this is my major problem, I can only hold a certain amount of stock which is obviously no good for my customers. Would breaking down the categories into ages or even by type of clothing help my customers?

Suzi, thankyou for your comments, I shall work on improving the site today :kisshands:

ages would be good.. or just put them into order.... so you have 0-3 months first right up to 11-12 years!

Why not have just boys and girls sections and instead of boys character and boys everyday wear? etc... i too am a lazy shopper and want to find it all under the same section...it will make the pages/stock look fuller.

I have been thinking about this since nic's friend mentioned it the other day, I think it's a good idea and it might fill up one category a bit more and then I can break it down it to sub cats

must remember about lazy shoppers lol

I think catergories is a really hard one to get right and please everyone - especially if you have areas that are very low on stock - although duplicating items in different catergories can help to fill it up a bit.

I have always struggled with categories.

stupid question but if I duplicate products into other categories will oscommerce think I've got double the stock?

Tanya

I hope not ! I have done some on my new site. I think it depends how you set your stock levels up, make sure you duplicate and don't copy.

I have my items in several catergories, just use the link option rather than the copy one.

what does the link one do then? I'm guessing now you've said that that the duplicate button duplicates stock too

I might have a go at jiggling the categories around later and duplicate some products to pad it out a bit until the new stock arrives next week

will you please let me know what you think when I'm done (especially smirnoff :hysterica)

Tanya

I have broken my products down into age group, can you let me know if you think it looks too busy at the top of the homepage now

now I've done this I can see where I need to fill the categories with certain ages, I might even remove the girls and boys 10+ for now until I sort out stock.

knotjustjigs

Can see staright away which ctagory i want to look at first and also allows you to see where your short of stock!

The list looks very wide across the top would you be able to put some on another row ? just a suggestion as i often miss things if i have to keep scrolling to the right!

I will see if I can figure out how to put it on 2 rows

Chell

If you take out the word 'baby' thats in the headings three times then that would reduce the width slightly. I don't need to scroll on my screen though, I take it others do?

Lemon
14-03-2007, 10:46 AM
That's much easier to navigate the catergories TJ. Not sure if 2 rows would make it "too busy" iykwim ! Have you thought about sub-catergories ? So you only have 4 or 5 Main ones on the home page ?

For example;
Boys and then sub cat 1-4; 5-10

Just a thought.

I did think about that but this way there is less clicks to get to where you want to go but if it looks too busy at the mo then I might have to do this.
