I feel really embarrassed now, but before I fell pg this time, I started using a mooncup or was about to rather because of how heavy I am. I couldn't stand to be changing every hour or less for 3 days out of the 5 that I'd have AF, and a mooncup was recommended.

A lot of people find their flow reduces when they start using cloth pads or mooncup-type things actually :)

Hmmm.... I'm quite tempted. Not that I'm heavy particularly but I'm on at the moment and the tampons are definately making me itch this time. I never made the connection before and it's not happened for ages but the coincidence is too great this time - it has to be them.

don't know what to say, I'm not very heavy but you can get cloth pads that are more absorbant.

I do have the motherease ones which I actually don't like as they are too long and thick. The weemoon ones are lovely, I also have some lunar pads which are fab really lovely and comfy and soft. I used post partum(?) pads with Dd too and that was heavy and they were fine they worked no probs, imo they were better than the ones that the hospital gave you.

Why don't you try one isn't there a trial one you can get from BK or plush pants?

This is poss TMI but I can never bring myself to use pads after I got friction burns one time - ever since then, even though they are thinner etc, I've been so afraid - apart from leakage issues etc. Its another reason I'm thinking of the mirena coil after this bub is born, as I'd heard that it slows everything down a bit.

I'd been told that mooncups could hold far more than a tampon, so less changing was required....I don't know though - never got to find out.

Sorry, like I say, slightly tmi

Mirena coil is excellent. It does slow things down. I used to get a few spots every 6 weeks or so but I know lots of people who didn't get periods at all! It's the best form of contraception out at the moment imo!

I was worried that I might react the same with that as I did with the implant, which was constant bleeding and had to take progesterone tablets every day to stop it, but I'm going to have a chat with my gp and see what she says. The only downside is the only doctor that fits them in our practice is the only doctor that I refuse to see as he put me on anti d's without telling me for "pain relief"

I have the mirena coil and its FAB!!!

I very rarely get a proper visit from AF, more like a couple of hours although every 4 months or so i will get a proper one..

i had mine fitted at our local family planning clinic as my gp of the time didnt fit them.. my new one does and is an ex gynae specialist and cant recommend them high enough..

if you react to progesterone already then it might not be that good an idea though. I found I had spotting for a few months after it was put in and then nothing until I had it removed, but in the meantime I got bloaty and depressed :(

Apparently I was insensitive to progesterone which was why I was bleeding every day. I don't want to go back on the combined pill though as I went into a size 14-16 on it, and as soon as I came off it, within 6 months, I was back into a size 10. I think long discussions are going to be needed with my gp about it.

Suzi *waves* it's Emmie from DWD (in another guise obviously), just spotted this and thought I'd have a quick join in! I don't use cloth nappies (no children yet so it would be pointless) but I use washable lady products and love them (hence why I lurk around cloth nappy forums, don't panic!)

Having researched them I can tell you:

You flow may be lighter using reusables (mooncup/washable towels) because, the theory is: well basically the disposables have chemicals in them that can 'suck the stuff out of you' because the resuables just absorb/catch it when it wanders out of it's own accord your periods can be easier to deal with. Same reason for less period pains. Not guaranteed either of them but worth baring in mind!

I use washable towels from ********** and love them. They are so very absorbent, very thin (thinner than disposables) and quick to dry! I just rinse them under a tap, spray some stain remover on (Tescos naturally one) then chuck them in a bucket. I wash them with my towels and they've all survived happily! I find I do as much icky stuff as I would with disposables. You don't even have to rinse them under the tap if you don't want, it just helps them not to get stained. Oh and one last thing, odour (sorry), none on the pad, none in the bucket, and er, none in general, much better than disposables for that I've found!

Erm, right I'll disappear again, I just saw a question I could answer and felt I ought to! :-)

OMg I have pndered getting a mooncup many times but haven't plucked up the courage yet!

I have recently converted to cloth! Got some fuzzis off Sarah's site and I LOVE them

I have given up with the pill and me and James just use condoms at the moment. My doctor 3 months post baby told me I was overweight and would prbably get thrombosis being on the pill!

I have thought about the mirena coil or however it is spelt but the whole thing wigs me out a bit if i'm honest!
