firstly i just wanted to say i am so glad there is an ebay site on here... well now for the help.. right.. my brother and his wife were telling how good ebay is and that they sell and buy loads of things.. so i thought id set up an account and give it a try... well i set up the account the right way i think and added my bank account as my sister in-law says the money goes straight out her bank.. well i bid for a lovely brand new pair of trainers for 1 of the twins and couldnt believe i won the bid and got them for an amazing £2.60 and £2.50 for the postage and packaging.. but then today i got an e-mail from the seller saying she has been sent an echeque... i dont know what an echeque is and i thought she would just have money transfered from my bank account to hers... she told me to cancel the cheque and pay with paypal???? i thought i did... have i set up the whole thing wrong??? and how do i reset it??? and will everythink else i try to buy be paid by echeque??? and how do i cancel the echeque that shes received?? how do i get my money back??? thanks all......... all help is so welcome.... i cant wait to shop shop shop!!!!!!!

I think maybe you have to wait for paypal to verify your account? or have you done that already?

As to cancelling the e-cheque, I believe they would have to do a refund? but I am fairly new to paypal and e-bay myself.

all i know is i set up the paypal account, with the step by step instructions.. waited for the 2 seperate small deposits they put in your bank account... emailed them when when that happened and it said i was ready to buy and sell so i did..... if u dont mind me asking does it sound like i set my account up the same way you did yours...

It does, I had funds from a sale and used a credit card at first, but apart from that, yes.

I'm no expert though, and I have never paid using funds drawn from my bank, I always used existing funds or credit card payments.

I know there are experts on here who will know the answer though, so I'm sure tomorrow someone will be able to help, I'll point your thread out to a couple of members who know far more about paypal than I do.

this happened to me over christmas, you cannot cancel an echeque and it goes into their paypal account like normal but takes longer.(up to 10days i think)
i dont know why this did it to me as i just clicked on the paypal link from the winning page and done it like i would always do but it went echeque.

tell her you cant cancel it so she will have to wait for it to clear and tell her it was the way it went through after clicking her pay link.

maybe its something wrong with the way shes set up her paypal.

i have been a member on ebay for well over a year now and this happened to me too (echeque) i have no idea why and has not happened since.

I just left it to clear, i got my item but had to wait longer then usual
due to the echeque.

When I set up my new bank account with PayPal the next payment I made went out as an echeque. I think you just have to wait for this one, but next time you go to pay for something I think if you go into "more funding options" (or something like that) it gives you the option of making your default payment type an instant payment. Hope this helps, it worked for me.

Maybe I Should Have Set It Up That Way Anyway In The 1st Place???? Some Bottles Lastnight And Today A Ralph Lauren Top For One Of The Twins... Both Items Say Complete Where Payment Details Are!!! So How Have They Been Paid Straight From My Bank???? In Echeque is from Paypal - you had paid with paypal only instead of it being a direct transfer it was an echeque. You can't cancel it and she will just have to wait for it to clear - it does take a long time. If you try to pay again you will pay her twice. I think echeques are sent when you don't have a credit or debit card registered with paypal. You shouldn't have to add funds if you've already paid - Paypal will take the money straight from your bank account - if you pay before the £60 is showing in paypal it will still take the money from your bank account. The only way you can use the £60 you transferred is to wait until it's showing in your Paypal account - does that make sense?
So to summarise - you didn't do anything wrong - you paid using your paypal account via echeque.

Erm....... Yes! When the £60 has cleared it will take the money from that and give you a running total everytime you spend - it's exactly like your own bank account and will tell you how much you've spent and how much you have left. Also if you've now added a debit card - next time you pay it will just take the money straight from your bank account and there will be no need to do anything else. I've never paid by echeque and never been given any other option to pay a different way. Hope that helps!

Thanks Just 1 Thing I Dont Have An Actual Debit Card For My Bank Account I Only Have The Normal Cash Machine Card... The Details I Gave Was For My Credit Card... Josie give paypal a rind on the helpline number - they are brilliant on the phone and just clarify about the credit card etc. It should come from your bank account but I'd give them a ring just to make sure.

sarah mentioned maybe it sent echeque if you didnt have a card registered this is not the case as i have been with paypal for years on the same card but had problems with sending instand cash and it starting sending echeques. they stiil come from your account but just take longer.

When you use eCheck, you don't have to have a credit card or alternate funding source attached to your PayPal account. Reasons for it sending an echeque can also be either your PayPal account is unverified.
Or the card you have attached to your PayPal account has expired or is about to expire

my account started sending echeques but my card hasnt expired. what happened to my account????its working again now and i have done nothing to it(no updates or anything)
