depends on cost imho...
tee tree shampoo still seems to work as a deterrant here so sticking with that atm!! LOL

I would say it depends on cost and whether you can really justify it.

Fingers crossed, we haven't had them yet, so I'm not sure.
Hopefully I'll never need to think about it :hyper:

we're having a nightmare with nits atm, my girls both have long hair and i've spent a small fortune on lotions but they just don't work! the only way i can get rid of them is a nitty gritty comb (£9.99 from boots) i did them again lastnight which takes me a couple of hours to do them both and they have gone to school with their hair in buns today, i'm gonna have to do it every other day to keep on top of it as you never know if you've missed one!!! little buggers!!!

I use tea tree shampoo/conditioner on my boys and use the asda own lavendar and tea tree spray on their hair too which seems to have kept the little suckers at bay...

luckily i've not had the hassle of nits with ellie yet but when i do i'll know about it because her hair goes all the way down her back, i have brought that new headrin thats out and it cost me an arm and a leg so it best do whats it says it does i can't stand creepy crawleys so headrin is perfect for what i want, this new device though yes it' going to be expensive but do you really think a child is going to sit still for 30mins while the device works somehow i dont think it'll take off very well.....maybe on older children over 6years but not for kids under that age they will paly up like nobody's buisness

I agree I can't see any child wanting to sit still for 30 mins - its bad enough trying to get the nit comb/nitty gritty comb through 20061008 when they are in the bath. Out of the bath - even bribery hasn't worked - yes I know I shouldn't bribe but the promise of some sweets does work sometimes:blusingan
Luckily I have boys so when I realised that nits were a constant problem in their school due to the same 2 or 3 parents that refuse to do a thing about it I just had their hair cut really short. It was so frustrating though - there'd be an outbreak so I'd comb through with conditioner and tea tree oil. then a few days later they'd be back. We'd get rid totally in the summer holidays then within a few days back at school they'd be infested again - aaaaargh!!!
Bring back the nit nurse!!

All the talk of nits is making me itch. My son doesnt often get them as his hair is grade 2. Does anyone else have the problem that when ever your kid does get them, you end up with them too? This is why his hair is kept so short now. Every other week he brings home a letter about an outbreak at school

Im lucky with my boys, they always have short hair. But a few years ago my sister had them really badly, she was infested with them to the point her head was bleeding so couldnt put chemicals on her. I smothered her head in baby oil over night & the nits died :hyper: I think it suffocates them where its so thick & they fell out of her hair. I washed it out in the morning & repeated it every 3 days untill everything had gone but it took about a month for her head to clear completely it was that bad.

wow she must have had them a long time for it to get that bad?
I nitcomb my girls every other night,i cant get along with the nitty gritty comb,so just use a normal metal toothed nitcomb,i hate the bloody things, its like a personal vendetta to me not to let them feed off my kids.:angry-smi

We've been lucky so far, DS has caught everything from daycare except headlice. I hope he won't start bringing those back so soon. Or maybe when he starts school! If he does I plan to shave his entire head so the thing has got nowhere to live!!!

I think the 30 mins may be a problem too.
We use Nitty Gritty too - and tea tree shampoo and conditioner.

Would drying out the nits also dry out the hair therefore make it straw like and knotty??????
