I don't know how many of u r in nursing, but I'm sure those of u who r, know wot I mean!!

@ the mo I'm not doing many shifts with them, as I'm on placement, but some wards r closed with a D&V outbreak in the hospital where I work/am on placement......& 2 cut a long story short, I rang NHSP 2 book in2 a shift on a ward I know is closed with the bug, & as per flippin usual, they didnt bother 2 tell me http://i18.photobucket.com/albums/b117/kathyhinsh/Smilies/a-exclaim2.gif

The reason I'm so angry is if I were 2 have taken the shift, I then wouldn't have been allowed back on my own ward 4 48 hrs, 2 be sure I didnt catch it!

& them not telling nurses is sheer negligence...& also a pita, as nurses r walking away from wards they've been booked 4, as they havent been told

I insisted onspeaking 2 a supervisor whilst still on the phone, & basically let rip on the poor man!

do u think I'm being unreasonable?

(I just hope they dont refuse 2 book me 4 shifts after this!)

Hi,
Ive never had dealings with this sort of thing, but if its the hospital im thinking off that was on the local news tonight then no i dont think you are being unreasonable at all. The should of let you & the other nurses know straight away what was going on.

Not you're not being unreasonable at all. If you miss 2 days on placement you have to make them up and they're leaving you really stuck by not telling you - and leaving you open to catching that infection as well.

(BTW Kathy, My next placements are out, 4 weeks in Thoracic (and possible cardiovascular) Surgery and 4 weeks in Mental Health)

No, you are not being unreasonable at all. Where i work it is standard practise to tell NHSP staff that a ward is closed when offering them a shift, then it is up to them if they can do it.Most of the NHSP staff are students or nhs employees anyway.Perhaps you should get infection control to have a word with them?

yea, maybe

I've covered myself tho, as I told the placement manager wot I was doing.
