Pope John Paul II has suffered serious heart problems and is in a grave condition, the Vatican has announced. The urgent communique came hours after the Pope's health worsened with a high fever caused by an infection. A spokesman said he had received the "Holy Viaticum" - the communion for the dying.

I heard the news this morning - that he had been given the "last rights" - seems his 26 yr reign may be coming to an end ..... sad news.

I feel so strange about this, haven't been a church goer for many years but his frail health has got me really worried. He became pope the year I was born as well so has always been there as far as I'm concerned.
I do think he should have been allowed to retire years ago though, his health can't have been helped by the daily pressures of the post.

I agree with Colette that he should've been able to retire years ago,but seeing as he is the only Pope i have ever known i'm not sure it works like that. He is definetely a very strong man but it has been hard to watch him suffering with his parkinsons disease etc over the last few months.
I dont go to church that often, but i know i will be saying a prayer for him tonight.
