and i didnt find out until afterwards.cryingsmil
Some of you may remember me saying in the past about my golden retriever, Val. She was a guide dog who failed her training because she was so nosey. She was 18 months when i got her so i never changed her name. Most of the time i called her "pups" anyway. She adored my mum and when i moved out i left her there, i was working full time and it just wouldnt have been fair.
Last week i took her to the vets because her arthritis was playing up big time but we came home with different pills.
I popped into my mums on the way to the dentist today to see how she was doing and my sister met me at the door. She broke the news to me and told me that my mum had text dh to tell me tonight when the kids were in bed. They adored her and her them, i think they kept her young.
Apparently she deteriorated last night, could hardly stand and when the vet came today he said her jaw was rotten, whatever that means.
I'm so glad she died at home with my mum as she hated the vets but i just feel so bad that i never got the chance to say goodbye.
She would've been 16 in april, a fantastic age for a retriever.
Thanks for reading this far, i just couldn't sleep with all these thoughts buzzing in my head.cryingsmil cryingsmil

THE DOGS WHO HAVE SHARED OUR LIVES
The dogs who've shared our lives.
In subtle ways they let us know
their spirit still survives.
Old habits still make us think
we hear a barking at the door.
Or step back when we drop
a tasty morsel on the floor.
Our feet still go around the place
the food dish used to be,
And, sometime, coming home at night,
we miss them terribly.
And although time may bring new friends
and a new food dish to fill,
That one place in our hearts
belongs to them...
and always will.

Aww! really sorry to hear this.
"Just this side of heaven is a place called rainbow bridge.
When an animal dies that has been especially close to someone here, that pet goes to rainbow bridge.
There are meadows and hills for all of our special friends so they can run and play together.
There is plenty of food, water and sunshine, and our friends are warm and comfortable.
All the animals who had been ill and old are restored to health and vigor; those who were hurt or maimed are made whole and strong again, just as we remember them in our dreams of days and times gone by.
The animals are happy and content, except for one small thing; they each miss someone very special to them, who had to be left behind.
They all run and play together, but the day comes when one suddenly stops and looks into the distance. His bright eyes are intent; His eager body quivers. Suddenly he begins to run from the group, flying over the green grass, his legs carrying him faster and faster.
You have been spotted, and when you and your special friend finally meet, you cling together in joyous reunion, never to be parted again. The happy kisses rain upon your face; your hands again caress the beloved head, and you look once more into the trusting eyes of your pet, so long gone from your life but never absent from your heart.
Then you cross rainbow bridge together....

Sorry to hear that hun. But at least her suffering was cut short. It would of been unfair for her to have to wait for you to come, as she was hurting. Your family did the right thing for her. They made sure she was loved and cared for at the end.

I really feel for you. We lost our rescued Collie/lab cross 2 years ago. He was 14 and we had decided that it was that time as he had been so poorly. We came home so dd could say goodbye and he quietly went to sleep whilst she was tickling his ears - we always think he was just waiting for her to get there - no vet required. Although we were all very sad and still miss him - we do remember all the love he gave us. We have a small garden bench at the bottom of the garden witha plaque it. DD loves sitting down there.
Big hugs. It was sad you weren't there, but you wouldnt have wanted her any more pain. xxx

That is truly beautiful. We are going to bury her urn in the back garden at my mums house so i think i may print this out and get someone to read it out, kind of like a little ceremony. We (mum, dad, my sis and two brothers) have already decided that after we bury her we are going to go on a family walk to a place called Blaise Castle, it's a beautiful woodland area and Val loved it there when she was younger. Then we are going to go to the nearby pub for a toast.

So sorry for your loss... at least she had a good long life.
I know how you must be feeling right now... several months ago our border collie was put to sleep as he was so old and had got to the stage where he couldn't walk :( and a last week my sisters retired guide dog had to be put to sleep as he had a blood clot in his brain :(
People say they are just dogs but they really are part of the family. They are burried next to each other in my parents garden .. each with their own tree planted above them :'-)
take care x
""cutey""b ""cutey""b I still cry remembering when my cat was put to sleep 8 years ago. She was 17 and had been my baby since I was 12. Big hugs to you hun
