find your local independent wine merchant and go ask them :)

Also, try Cava. I love Champagne but you can get some excellent Cava these days. And it is cheaper. Again, ask at your wine merchants. Veuve Clicquet is my fave Champagne. But I don't have it very often these days............ pah!
Can of Fosters for me........!

I like some of the better Cavas too - theres one fizzy tipple that i love though - hmm can never pronounce it - it's in a black bottle - i always call it "fixident" it's about £7 a bottle so reasonable it's probably spelt - googled it
Freixenet Cordon Negro Vintage Brut 75cl it's Per case: £28.44 at Tesco - they seem to have offers per case at the moment on champers and wines.

I think that Champage can be terrible over rated, have had some nice stuff and some vile stuff - it all depends on what your taste is.

*nods* on the cava, I prefer the fruitier taste to the more 'biscuity' taste of champagne, also the New Zealand sparkling wines can be really good, Lindauer's a well-known and decent brand. Red wine's better for my constitution though.

OK - putting my wine head on here - I have a few qualifications in this.

If you like Champagne but not the price then go for something that says Methode Traditionelle on the label. This is made in the same way as champagne but not in the region. REally it means that the bubbles are nice and small and will last better than carbonated.

Ackerman sparkling saumur is excellent and would really recommend it,
Hope this helps

PS - some terms

Brut is Dry
Demi sec is sweeter

Personally brut is the way to go unless you like something like Asti which is very sweet.
