My dh is a gas engineer, can repair and fit cookers. be as harsh as you like here with your responses ladies.
Last Xmas day it became clear that my oven was not working - the dinner was three hours late. I have struggled for a year with a malfunctioning oven.
I told Dh that if he didn't repair the oven i'd not be cooking Xmas dinner.
Just tried to cook a meal - am supposed to be out at 6pm so dinner was set to be ready for 5.30.
Looks in oven at 5.30 and the foods all raw. So i tells him that the FFD has gone, he debates in says it's the thermostat 'cause now the flame is sky high - so it appears both parts are faulting.
The kids have had no food and we need to go out. They are currently snacking.
What would you do?
Answers need to be as severe as possible.
maybe i should report him to corgi for being an incompetent gas engineer!
Thanks
Anne

yeah right. Thats why i am about to hire your dad to do the jobs that you "have oh so got round to"
seriously though i would tell him that enough is enough. He either fixes it this week, or he has several options:
1) you will be off to buy a very expensive new cooker
2) you will be going out for christmas lunch and he will be paying
3) you are witholding all bedroom activites until it is fixed
4) you will be hiring someone to come out and do fix the cooker

Oh ladies - i love those answers!! ;-)
Now i have threatened to buy a new cooker BUT the one i want is £1500 - not an option for now. I have told him to get me a second hand one for now, i don't give a stuff, as long as it cooks i am happy.
I served him the plate of raw food - he wasn't happy and i doubt that he'd notice if i witheld his bedroom treats ;-)
If he wasn't a gas engineer i wouldn't be quite so upset.
Grrrrr - white van men, they really are a pain in the backside.
Oh and when i told him that i'd book another gas engineer he said "go on then" By this time i was a slamming door maniac running about and screaming at him like a banshee - horns just grew from nowhere.
Grrrrr. I know that i won't get an engineer out at this time of year now - oh i am so fed up with him and his blummin cooker. I doubt that i will get a cooker now either and i don't want to have to pay for it.
I will refer to this list and use it all against him - off to lok for some chains.
Thank you ladies.
I wonder if explaining to him that a women with no cooker is like a man with no.......i can't do the job i am supposed to do.

Why not get an insurance with the gas board and then after a day phone them up and get them out. They are very efficient (well, here they are) and for the peace of mind it is worth the money.

Elly, i just spat my tea ;-) LOL!!
Chutney - i had a washing machine two Christmases ago for Christmas ;-(
Hmmm British Gas - he's a gas engineer, i shouldn't need a BG contract - this is my complaint - the man should have the parts in his van and have had it repaired by now. Just caught him looking on ebay before for cookers. I am happy with a second hand one for now, new kicthen being fitted in 2007. My kitchen just now is actually my utility room but i'd manage just fine if i had a proper cooker.
I don't have my kitchen yet and we are still having structural work done so a new cooker has to wait - yep it is some cooker BUT we are a large family and a normal sized cooker just can't cope with the amount of food that i have to cook - plus i will be 40 in a few weeks and i want the cooker of my dreams, it will last me a lifetime and i will be able to cook easily and properly rather than struggling with a normal cooker.
Off to look for some pot noodles ;-)
Thank you for cheering me up gals.
