As I mention below, I am moving house. We are temporarily staying with my parents. But they are not keen to have their address on my website. Obviously I do need an address on there (esp for cheques to be sent). Can you think of any way round this?
Many thanks and sorry for the boring questions today!

Buying a PO box? or forwarding you mail via Royal Mail but leaving it at the old one on the site? Bit cheeky, but might save you hassle. A PO box is £56 a year i think and redirection about £30 for 6 months... (says she who has moved house 5 times in 6 years!)

Bit cheeky but I like it! It will only be for about 2/3 months. And if the new house owners say anything I'll change it. People rarely pay by cheque anyway.
5 times in 6 years - wow!

Can I ask a quick question re PO Boxes
Ive just got one, as I worry about privacy for various reasons
But have been told by someone yesterday that you have to display a non-po box address - do you know anything about this?
Ive read the dti site and cant seem to find ay distinction between po boxes and land addresses

I don't think you are supposed to (well, okay, i know you aren't really) but i had a stalker/troll for 3 years and i hate having my address about. Anyway, the full address of a PO Box will be disclosed by the Royal Mail to anyone who asks and you can only have a fully private one if the police agree it.

I did read on another site that if you have a website then you must dispaly your address.
I try and get the link required for you.

The Distance Sellings Regulations state the following:
"....the geographic address of the business to which the consumer may direct any complaints. There is no definition of "geographic address" in the DSR's but our view is that this means a physical loaction, so a PO Box address is not sufficient."
Full DSR's can be viewed here:

One way of getting round this is to list your accountants geographical address as your registered office and then have a PO Box for Returns and other company mail.
This works best if you are a Ltd Company as you can officially list the accountants address as many small business do self assessment and may not have an accountant.
However, if you do have an accountant I am sure that temporarily you can use his/hers office address. (With permission of course)
The reason you legally have to have a geographical address is that you can be served papers i.e. legal documents.

Tiny business, plus I understand basic accounting so no accountant
But as Merrily Me says, your PO Box full address includes your street address, its only the short version which excludes it iykwim
Im so confused and very nervous about using my home address, plus now having forked out 50 quid for a PO Box, because I couldnt see anything about not using them

If you choose not to list your address the likelihood of someone checking up on you is minimal and even if you do get trading standards attention they will only tell you to add your address.
If you choose to list your address you could put your home address on the page with Privacy Policy or Terms, place is out the way instead of on Contact Us page.
Specify that this address is for complaints only.
I think you are more likely to get a stalker at the supermarket or on the school run than by being a WAHM. ;)

I am not sure how economical this is but i read somewhere that you can buy a vurtual office address if fir any reason you don't want you own address to be known. Your mail is then forwarded to you. I am not sure how you would go about it though, maybe one of the vurtual assistants on here would offer that kind of service

Hmmmmmmm - it is a difficult one. I think I'll just put their address on but make it discreet and not tell them - ha ha! It should only be for a couple of months until we move into our new house.
Thanks everyone
