there's always this freecycle everyone keeps on about, your only cost is going to pick it up, if it doesn't work, I suppose you either bin it or put it back up on freecycle.

http://www.freecycle.org/display.php?region=United%20Kingdom

but you might have to sift through a lot of crap to get what you want.

seeing im talking to the mumszone tech support dept, you will know what i mean when i say that i want it to run carsoft, and be able to use serial port to an obd1 or obd2 port. anything of around the p3 or newer will be fine, ideally with a serial port

We tend to get most of our stuff from ebay, I know you said not ebay but we think it's fab providing you buy from a reputable buyer with plenty of positive feedback :happy72:

basically he is thinking about starting up on his own as a mechanic, but he ideally needs a laptop that can handle these packages first! And as we are skint adn have 2 of our birthdays and christmas in the next few months there is VERY little spare cash adn we cant afford the risk of a problem with ebay.....

if that makes anyt sense!! LOL
