It looks lovely Niki. I like the way you have clear prices on everything (a bug bear of mine). It looks like you put alot of effort into your display - well done.

Wow - that looks gorgeous and lovely! You must have been too good for the event. Don't give up. That stall wouldn't look out of place in a posh craft fair in Chelsea!

Thank you everyone. I am thinking of quitting shows now unless I can find more up market ones, but I don't know of any really. It would be great to try some in London but I have no idea how much the fees would be.
I am thinking of trying to get into more shops as this would be great for my target market.
Thanks for all your support.

Hiya Nicki,
Im really sorry to read that it didnt go well, thats awful but dont let it dishearten you. honestly try and learn from it. Maybe you know that you need to ask more questions before hand, like what exactly are the other stalls selling?
I really hope that your next goes better, sometimes the cheap small stalls are the big money earners.
Its all just a learning curve, your stuff is great! As I know first hand! - thanks btw!

Your stall looked lovely Niki.
A while ago now on a business forum I heard about some research that showed that fairs/shopping events (whether baby, craft or whatever) that charge entrance fees (particularly if the fees go to charity) will always attract customers willing to spend money, whereas the free or very cheap entrance ones won't.
I did a big one 3 years ago and there was quite a steep entrance fee and I did very well, and I did a small one this year with an entrance fee and also did very well. So the research worked for me!
Hope that helps in deciding whether you should do anymore - another thing to consider is that part of doing a fair is brand awareness and publicity.

Hi Claire
There was an entrance fee of £2.50 but stall holders were given 10 free tickets each to give out so there were probably a lot of people getting in free.
It just seemed as though people wanted tat that they could buy anywhere :(
I thought your comment on brand awareness was interesting could you explain what you mean?
Thanks
Niki

Niki - I just meant that a big reason for doing fairs is so that the public gain awareness of "your" brand - The Vintage Artist. Even if you sell nothing at a fair, your brand has become known on a sub-conscious level and any leaflets/flyers/business cards you gave out can potentially lead to a website sale even if its twelve months down the line and with a happy customer comes the potential for more future sales too.
It's why for example, Muller give out free yogurts/rice pots on the streets etc. Big companies know that brand awareness is key even if you've been established for 60 years or whatever.
Hope I explained that ok!

It looked great; i used to do absolutely loads of craft fairs and they seemed to be a law unto themselves!!!!! Very frustrating at times, but fab at others. Don't give up yet :)
