Don't know what to do. Can't find my tax return form thing, need the number on it to register online to do it and now I can't do it.

What happens now. Do I get fined or something. This is my first ever tax return, have always been employed by someone else before. I've been putting it off and putting it off ever since I got the form thingy. Everytime I think about doing it my stomach goes as I just don't have a head for figures etc.

It's making me feel sick just thinking about it, I just can't do these things. I have A levels in literature and language and psychology and sociology but I just can't do things like this.

I have all my invoices and receipts of things I've brought and I havn't earnt enough to pay any tax anyway by a long way. I feel even sicker now.

Does anyone know what will happen next, I'm very worried.

Kate

the 30th September deadline was if you were doing a paper return and you wanted them to calculate your tax for you

If you are filing your return online you have until the 30th December to do it.

If you still want to do a paper one you have until 31st January but I think you have to work out your own tax.

If you haven't filed anything before 31st Jan you will be fined £100

OTG for that. I was beginning to get all panicky. I presume I can ring them and get the number again. I put it in such a safe place and now I can't find it. It looks as if they send you a pin number for the online thing by post too which I was never going to get by tomorow.

Keep hearing the ads on the radio and thought it had to be done by tomorow whatever. Thank you so much Tanya, I am really going to have to get some help with this, I am useless. I can do the art, just can't do the bl@@dy paper work, lol.

I haven't had to do a tax return for a year or two, now, thank goodness - but I would think if you contact them with your National insurance number, they will be able to give you your tax reference number, and then they will send out the user ID you need for the online return.

The letter I have found is a few years out of date - but gives a number for the Electronic Business Helpdesk (open 08.00 - 22.00 weekdays and 10.00 - 18.00 weekends) as 0845 6055999 and e-mail helpdesk@ir-efile.gov.uk ~ this may be out of date though, as they don't call themselves Inland Revenue anymore do they?

I'm sure they will be able to send you out another form and details you'll need for the online service, so don't worry.

I did exactly the same thing last year but managed to find it in the end (although I can't remember where it is again this year) I'm all in a fuddle I just don't know why I can seem to juggle 1000 tasks at once but when it comes to things like this I stuff up again and again and again. Give them a call you won't be the first person to do this and they want to help you :)

Tashxx (I've got an accountant this year because it's the one area that worries me to death I dread getting it wrong).

I havent lost mine, its just in a safe place :cheesy:
Im dreading mine, im going to see an accountant next week about it, as I am scared of getting it wrong, so to be on the safe side I am getting an accountant to do mine.
Its one thing that I have always worrid about, and one of the reasons against being self employed.

I would give them a ring, they are usually really helpful

They can't fine you if you don't owe any tax, and you can always print out a paper copy and they can find your details in the system.
