Thanks in advance

You can get them from here (http://www.instantssl.com/ssl-certificate-products/free-ssl-certificate.html) or here (http://www.enterprisessl.com/) my H has personally used the later)

Well you don't need one unless processing your own payments. Third party payment processors (like Paypal) have their own. Up to you though.

Someone would have to want to try and break into your website and be extremely techy savvy to even attempt to gain any info from it Tanya. Sure if you can afford the cost of one, get one, but it's not necessary. There are other means of obtaining information such as addresses of people (customers), so that it is a very very slim chance of that happening through you.

I was starting to panic, didn't know if I needed one or not, now I know I don't really need one I can relax a bit now. (and no I can't afford one anyway) lol
thanks for your help

The advanced (new) ones of mine have QTPro installed. I so hate adding mods.

I've done 3 stores that use SSL cert. If you're not processing your own payments (ie., taking cc number directly and not via paypal/nochex) then you don't need the headache and cost of getting and installing. They are quite complex and can be costly.

Hi, i don't have one 'cause for the moment i use paypal - one thing i will say - when i first started, loads of people emailed me saying that they wanted to order but wouldn't 'cause they couldnt cope with paypal - i had to make it clear on the site that they could pay without having a paypal account - not had any problems since - that hiccup was very stressful - i could see people getting to checkout and then just leaving - i still get that once in a while, probably 'cause some people don't bother to read the info but it's rare.
