Hi, my name is Abbie (not very imaginative on the username front I'm afraid!)
I have recently started my own business as a party planner after the birth of my second daughter. I have only just set up and am still in the stage of sorting out advertising and planting leaflets in local shops, nurseries and schools etc.
Predictably, it is quite slow at the moment but it is driving me mad!! :ac39:
Please tell me its all worthwhile!!
and if you are allowed take a look at my website www.somethingfabulous.co.uk
thanks
Abbie

I'm in exactly the same position. My website went online last Tueday PM so only 4 days ago but I am desperately trying to promote it to get some sales. DP has been phoning me hourly from work asking if I have sold anything.

Hi Abbie and welcome to MZ ! Is it worth it ? Erm .... that's a difficult question ! If you mean will you make tons of money quickly then definately not. Like any business you have to work your butt off for no reward for a while, it takes time, tenacity and loads of hard graft. I haven't reached the "big time" by any stretch of the imagination but I try to keep my goals small and achievable. For example I would like the money I earn to pay for a family holiday every year. Saying that, I really enjoy what I do and it gives me something to think and broadens my relationships with adults, which is really important being a SAHM. Hope that helps xx

I'm sort of in the same situation - I launched in May 05 but then found out I was pg this time last year so sort of ground to a halt rather than hyping up so now I feel all new again :)

Good luck with it

I'm in the position where I want to buy plenty of stock so I have a good range to get people interested but would rather not spend more cash until I earn some.

Hiya :) It is worth it but it's really hard work just keep plugging away and you'll get there you just need to give it time. Welcome to mumszone, these sites are a great place to share and learn :) I'm Tash and I've got four sproglets.

Hi Abbie .. welcome to the forum :)

Don't give up too easily ... I'm just starting up too and to be honest I didn't really think about how much effort you have to put into advertising to get your business known... I'm now getting visitors coming back to my shop although still waiting for my first sale but things are looking promising!

With your party planning business what about offering to plan some parties for friends and families for a cheap rate then you can put some testimonals on your site.. also they could then recommend you to their friends and so on?

good luck with it all

Kerry

Hello and welcome

I'll have a look at your site in a minute

It IS worth it - but as the others say, you won't make much to begin with. I see mine as a hobby which pays a little (enough to pay the phone bill each month, for example), and which will grow to eventually provide a very good 2nd income.

I imagine you will find a lot of business through word of mouth and personal recommendations, so once you have done your first few parties, and they are a success (naturally ;)) people will recommend you.

My friend is a face painter - she has been doing it for about 10 years, and she is very sought after so that most weekends she is booked up doing parties and local events etc. Stick at it - this sort of business is a slow burn but worth it in the end - I reckon!

And there is nothing wrong with being impatient - much better than lethargic!

Thanks all, I feel inspired!! I never realised quite how many people worked from home once they had had kids, it's really great and makes me wish I had had the bottle when my eldest was young (now 8) realise now that I have probably missed out a lot by persuing career but you live you learn!
