I know some people use them for their sites. I have always been put off, (it's the control freak in me !). Are your experiences of dropshippers on the whole been positive or negative ?

Hi

I have some - if it works it's great - but sometimes can be a real pain in the bum,

I try to be very picky about choosing dropshippers I only use two companies and only because I know they are both reliable but I still keep an eye on them! lol

I'm not sure whether to use them or not at the moment. I can see the advantage of it, but I do like control over my stock and keeping my Customers happy !

I only use one dropshipper and on the whole have to say I have never had a problem with them.

You do have to be careful as there are some not so good ones out there

I only use one - for baby hammocks and only because they are a well established company and offer a guaranteed next day delivery service to the customer by a reputable courier company.

I think you have to decide what kind of company you are - do you want to hold stock and get things quickly to your customers or are you happy to not hold stock and possibly have your customers orders delayed? It also does make things more difficult to chase up if orders don't arrive, you have less control.

Claire I didn't realise you were doing the hammocks! LOL I have a couple of dropship suppliers and I do it myself for one or two people (in fact if anyone's interested in any of my stuff, do ask ;) )

of no interest to me.....but
what is a dropshipper exactly?

Tanya

dropshipping means that you don't have to hold any stock, you advertise their products on your website and when you sell something you send payment to the person who owns the stock and they post it to your customer for you

If I made my own products such as baby slings, picture frames, etc that sort of thing then yes I would dropship

I would consider it... I'd have to trust the person I was dropshipping for and work out the pricing though.

I would consider it if it was the right person to work with. I'm more keen on setting up and getting an affiliate scheme going though.

Thanks, I was just going to ask the same question as whassat. I have never heard of dropshipping before. Is it a bit like wholesale then? I had thought about asking some shops in Edinburgh to sell my items but most of them want 50% of the sale, is this normal?

On saying that though once I have got some more time on my hands, it's something that I may look into.

Trinity, I'm no expert but saying I wanted to sell your products on my website (love too thanks), you would charge me your wholesale price plus any other charges (p&p, handling etc) and I would sell it at a price I thought was reasonable or, pay you and you would ship it for me, bob's your uncle and everyones happy lol

I have a great relationship with all my dropshippers.I have guidelines that we all follow so we know where we are and I follow same set of rules when I drop ship my own stuff.

It is basically another window of opportunity .. if someone doesn't find your site they might find someone else's with your stuff on .That way every one is happy.:happy72:

I enquired about prices of products for my site form one particular company but decided against buying more stock until I get some sales. Since reading this thread I have been cheeky and emailed them asking if they will dropship, fingers crossed they say yes. What sort of percentage do you usually get from the sale?

it varies greatly really, and some will charge postage on top which you need to be wary of.
