Toni, when i bought them 2 years ago as 2 boys they were naughty, until we discovered one was actaully a girl, now they're just naughty b/c they chew everything when i let them out to run around.

kat

So you wouldnt recommend Guinea Pigs as pets then Bunny? As DD has asked for one and was just wondering what they were like to look after :D

Bunny
04-02-2005, 08:06 PM
Kat, I would recommend them as pets are they are easy to look after and the right size for a child to handle, I guess mine just have control over me, I give in to them, they rule my life.

kat
04-02-2005, 08:08 PM
Do they bite/nip or and are they quite happy to be handled?

bikemad
04-02-2005, 08:12 PM
O ds cant say guinea pigs so he says mini pigs-lol.

Bunny
04-02-2005, 08:14 PM
Aawww, mini pigs, thats cute BM.

They only nipped me if I have veggies in my hand and don't give them to them straight away, you have more chance of being nipped by a hamster than a guinea pig. I have 2 hamsters inthe past and they both nipped me. Rabbit are great pets as well, had one a few years ago but she loved DH more than me.

Ravenfire
04-02-2005, 08:34 PM
Mine has never nipped me, he is lovely and much easier to handle than the rabbit!

Bunny
04-02-2005, 08:37 PM
Rabbits aren't the best pet for kids as they like to be very independent and don't like being handled roughly. I still have many fond memories of my little princess bunny, still sadly missed by me and DH.

Girlzmum
04-02-2005, 08:39 PM
Oh, rabbits don't like me at all - I've never done anything against them (in fact I was quite fond of them) but have ended up in casulty getting a tetanus injection (and have a lovely scar on my arm as well) after one kicked at me and then the next rabbit I went near lashed at me and cut my hand! Think someone is trying to tell me something!

Bunny
04-02-2005, 08:55 PM
Collete, I think my DH would sympathise with you, he's arms were always covered in scratches when we had our rabbit, I'm also sure she bit him once.

PMSL!!!

CAREN!!! :o You can give Steve Irwin a run for his money!!! I can't believe you have all those animals! Like taking care of six kids is not hard work enough! :o One of my nephews is a fish/aqualife freak and I have headaches looking at his aquariums, so I just can't imagine how your home is like!

DD had 2 Guinea pigs for her 3rd birthday. Both were quite shy, and VERY fast runners, but a bit boring.

Hamster bites are definately worse (and more prolific) than GP bites too

kat

Thanks for the info ladies so think ill pass on the hamster but ill keep GP in mind they dont sound so bad :D

When I went back to mom's last week my aqualife freak nephew has added two hamsters to his wildlife collection. Well at least I think it's hamsters cos I can't for the life of me tell the difference between hamsters, guinea pigs and gerbils. Anyway they were so cute in their two-storey cage I thought I'd get a couple myself! What do you think? Should I or shouldn't I? Especially taking into consideration both DH and I work very long hours, and I'll be going outstation a lot this year, and we live in an 850 sq feet apartment with no balcony and DS is at the learning-to-walk stage (and not afraid of animals or bugs :o ).

Ooo, I've pretty much summed it up myself didn't I? :P But I just love them hamsters! They're soooo cute! Aaaarrghhh!! :angry-smiley-044:

My poor dog is going, :( - we dont give him enough attention. I do feel really sorry for him but I cant let him in around Ethan because Eth comes out in a blotchy rash, we've tried the medicated shampoo but doesn't seem to stop Eth being allergic, so on the advice of the health visitor we need to find somewhere for him to go. Its such a shame really because Ethan loves him to bits and the dog is so friendly, its just a shame I cant let the two of them play!

He will be happier with a family who can pay him the attention he needs.

I dont think we are dog people, i think were fish people, I even manage to clean them out and remember to feed them!

I asked you what's wrong with your dog in ChitChat, now I feel like a daft woman. I obviously didn't see this before. Sorry to hear that Ethan is allergic to dogs. I hope he won't miss it too much...
