View Full Version : Addresses on websites?
after reading tanyajane's thread about her website several of you said she should put her address on her site ...
well I've done the same - I don't have my address or phone number on my site - i don't have a business address and my phone is shared with my sister so i can't expect her to answer business calls for me!
What does everyone else do about putting their details on their sites?
Personally I don't mind not seeing an address or phone number on a site before i buy something.
Thanks
Kerry

Hi Kerry,
Unfortunately by law you have to have an address and that on the website - it's to do with the distance selling regulations.
We've got our home address on our site and we used to have our home number - but we changed it to a work mobile number and an 0845 number. We then decided to get Skype and get a phone number for work purposes through that so that's what we use now.
HTH!

Hi .. not only is it a requirement .. but I also think it makes a clear statement about your trading ethics. I often shut down sites that I may of made a purchase on because they donot have these details available .. there are SOO many out there that do not have consumers interests at heart !
Knowing where a business is based is also very reassuring... I use my mobile number and if it ever comes to the day it rings for work too much I'll get another one for personal use !!

I purchased a PO Box No, which is £56 for the year and I have my mobile number on the site. I was too worried about putting my home address on all over the internet ! I think I remember someone saying that a PO Box address is very easy to trace but tbh I don't think alot of people would bother ... ?
Welon my site my address comes up if someone selects cheque as payment method ... just don't want to put my home address on my site and can't afford a PO Box until i start selling stuff.

I have my home address on my site. I don't have a number though (forgot!) so will add on my mobile. All my stationery and leaflets etc has my number on. If ever the mobile gets busy I'll buy a different one just for work. Have only ever had one phone call though! I was really excited!

You have to put your trading address by law or you could get in serious trouble. Have a look at the distance selling regulations you really do need to be familiar with these before you trade at all it's so important. I put my home address on my site because it's where I work and trust me a LOT of customers check it before the purchase from me. I've put a lot of info for my customers on my site about their legal rights it's got a few links on there that might help you. Also have a look through the businesslink website which will have more info for you. You can put a mobile number on your site, you could get a PAYG one just for business purposes so that it's seperate? You could use the PO box address as someone suggested but I tend to avoid those as well because a lot of scams happen with them.

Oh no nothing for you to worry about it's the other side that needs to be wary. Lots of phony businesses use PO Boxes and I'm always a bit nervous if i can't back up the business location. You're fine if you have one just I think a lot of people are wary of them these days.
Sorry hon didn't meant to scare you :blusingan

Yes if I'm honest but they say that the majority of attacks, murders etc are done by people you know. Stalking is very rare and I just don't think I'm that interesting lol

I've got my address on my website, it doesn't bother me one bit. It's so much easier to receive cheques straight through my letter box than faff about fetching them from a PO box, plus I'm too tight to pay the £56 a year. Not sure if my phone number is on though. Off to look............

I thought mine was on but it actually only appears if you are paying my cheque. Where do you all out it? On what area of your site I mean.

I have a PO Box and i go and collect the post about once a week unless I am expecting something important .. like money !
I was very wary about putting my home address on plus then someone told me we would get even more junk mail if I did that.
I also got a second line with a different number so I could have a seperate business number for the site.Wasn't too expensive as I didn't tell them it was business!
I think it's important to have all your contact details on and I agree people do look.I can tell by my software that a lot of people have checked that page out before they finalise their payment !

Oh you just reminded me Sharon about getting the second number. I know BT do it I don't know if others do. I think it's called callsign or something like that where you can get a second number and it rings with a different tone. Use a box (twintalk) as well and you can have differnet phones ringing depending on what number was called that's what I have and it works really well. Only problem I've had with it is that if I call someone and they do ringback it comes through to my home number :)

Thats the reason I'm worried! ... I have a psycho ex who used to stalk me... really don't want him to find out where i live again!
