My dd1 is dying for a pet but we live in 2nd floor flat and have refused a dog, rabbit etc - I did think about a guinea pig but have to say it's the clearing out and the smell that is putting me off. I have been thinking about a cat but because of the flat situation it would need to be a house-cat, do you think this is ok for cats or should they be allowed freedom?

And is the best place to go to cat/dog rescue to get one?

i think its ok to have house cats i know a few people who have them the only thing that puts me off is the litter tray we are using one at the moment for sassy and she gets it everywhere and it stinks
i would try local rescues ect as it is what they call kitten season at the mo xxxxx

well, i have to say that i think its down to the cats personality really. my mum has three cats. one goes out all the time, the middle one goes out and then panics and her littlest one isnt even interested in attempting to go outside at all.
i dont think that there is anything wrong with it, but it might nmot be nice for anyone if the cat decides that it wants to explore and then cant.

if you do decide on a cat though, a rescue center is probably the best. they may even have a cat that is used to being indoors.

good luck though sweetpea

Yes, there is the question of the littertray! Can you get ones that smell nice?! :crossfing

The only person we have to convince now is DH, we have fish but I do think it would nice for the girls to have a pet that they can cuddle and look after. However with my two, the poor cat will probably spend months in hiding!

not sure bout that, but i kno that me mum uses nappy sacks to put the litter n poo in so that it stops smelling the bins out.

think that there is a litter you can get that 'apparently' neutralises the smell, but think its either pricey or doesnt work.

hope you manage to convince him!!!:clapping:

tbh in some ways i regret getting sassy i love her to bits but the kids mainly alex does not leave her alone and gets her all hypo lol but she will grow out of it eventually and what dosent help is my dog is incontinant now (shes going to the vets when my mum makes an appointment)

you can buy litter deodariser which is like carpet freshner but for litter trays and bins also you can buy the litter that neautralises the smell but it is very expensive xxxxx

Ahh the joys of an indoor cat we have one.. he is an absolute star and an absolute nightmare!

Christmas time he will eat all the tinsel he can reach, feeding time will drag his food out of the kitchen and eat it wherever he can, any bits of paper he finds he tries to eat (sometimes succeeds) but at the same time he is the most loving wonderful dog-like-cat I have ever known..comes when called..if you throw something for him he will most of the time bring it back to you to throw it again.. he will roll over wherever he can for a belly rub.. (which is also quite dangerous when its 3am and no lights on as he is a black cat)

But his latest thing..LO's dummies.. grrrrrrr got through loads if LO drops them he will pick them up take them upstairs and happily lob them around the room.. and sometimes walk back downstairs and into the livingroom where we are confronted with the most hilarious site.. a cat with a dummy in its mouth (although not so funny as they are expensive and keep needing to replace them)

ahh cats gotta love them..

Our kitties are starting to go out (mainly on an evening when it is quiet) - they play outside .... then come in and use the litter tray. "Doh"

But cats are wonderful companions! I am going through a horrendous time atm and my 1 year old cat will sit on my lap and purr and purr and ....... If I don't give him enough attention he will nudge my hand until I stroke him. :cloud9:

If I am eating something wrapped in foil my 2 year old cat will sit on the floor in front of me waiting until I have finished and I scrunch up the foil and throw it for her and she will have a mad half hour batting it around!:woot:

Both of mine go out but I was told that as long as they have never been left out they will not look for it. You can buy cat grass seeds in a little tray from pet shops which you grow and then put down for the cats to chew on.

Good luck - you will get so much out of your cat (and they don't answer back!):hysterica
