Aaarrrggghhhh thought goldfish are meant to be ok to look after!!!!!!!!!

Bloomin fishy has died.Done everything by the book-he got a new tank with filter(got it just before got him itsm).Got stuff to declorinate the water.Only fed him little bit once a day blah balh-all the things you got to do.Checked him at 7pm last night n he was swimming round not a care in the world-checked him at midnight before going to bed n he was dead n floating at the top!!!!!!

Im doing things by the book n they are dieing!!!!!I dont know what is wrong-ds isnt impressed but said o next time il just get basic ones(maybe he thinks they only live for a few weeks"Doh" ).

Worst of all couldnt put light on in ds's room or he would have woken n he woke same time as me this morning-I need to flush the thing down the loo but he is stood by me all the time(in one of his annoying in ya face moods today)so cant dispose of the damn thing."Doh"

If it aint one thing its another in this house!!!!!Fish dieing,car died a death so dp had to get new one,ds doing my head in-at least the hammie is ok touch wood!!!!cryingsmil

Fish are really fragile we have one and we got him 2 friends and they died really quickly.

some salt in the water is supposed to help also don't release them straight away into the tank, put the bag in the tank and gradually move them into the tank.

Sure you did everything you could.

When you got fish was he a good swimmer?

hun, my fish were like that. bought some to keep the others company in the new big tank i inherited(from a good source so i know the tank was fine) and 3 of the 4 died within 2 weeks!!!!

strange thing is that the fish that started it all, Orbison, i won at the fair 2 years ago and he's still going strong.

I would tell the place you got it from because it might have been an unwell fish to begin with. I'd also try getting a new one from somewhere else.

We had this problem with mice and hamsters. All the hams we've brougt from Pet at Home have died within 4-5 months, and the mice we used to buy from a particular petshop were lucky if they reached 4 months too, I think they were so interbred that they were unhealthy. The two that we've had the most luck with were feeder mice.

We get our mice and hams from a different pet shop now and they are great, we've had them for ages and they have been much more friendly too than in the past.

He was odd he would swim for about a few hours in the evening but dp asked me why does he spend so much time resting at the bottom so maybe he was ill when we got him.:unsure:

Don't suppose you got a receipt for him did you? I got my fish from Pets at Home and you can get another one if yours dies within a week I think it is. I would suggest leaving the tank running for a few weeks before getting a new fish, maybe get a couple of boring goldfish, I've got comets, shubunkins and yellow goldfish atm. Get 2 then if ones dies, it's not so bad!! We got 3 at first, one of which died.

Not sure what else I can think of! Leave the fish in the bag, with the bag in the water til it gets used to the water, then slowly tip the bag, but I guess you've done all that!

And you only need to change about a fifth of the water, once every week or two weeks.

awww poor fishy.
Have you tried testing the water to see if the pH levels are ok? you can get the kits at pet shops then if the levels are too high or low you can get additives to make it right.

i had this when i got 2 fish from a certain shop they died within days but got some more from a different place and had them ages
also dont put them straight into the fresh water as temperture is different and can upset them sit them in the bag you bring em home in inside the fresh water in the tank itms for about half an hour or so so they can get used to the temp (not sure if you did that before or not) and then put them in the tank along with the water they were in when you bought them home xxxxx

these are our fish. we are now the proud owners of 2 snails :unsure: which ds saw and wanted, they are called max and ruby lol

Yeah sat the bag in water for bout 30mins last time.

Well ive sorted the tank out so ive got the filter on n leave it now tonight all tomorow n tomorow night n Sat morn then get basic goldfish Sat afternoon il get 2 they are only 60p n like someone said if one dies it aint such a big thing.:unsure:

I would just get a basic one as well when I got mine the fish bloke told me they were more hardy than the fantails! Hope you have more luck with the next one.
