Mobile phones and children

I personally wouldnt let my 7 yr old have a phone but I know two of her friends at school have them.

Do you kids have phones and what do they use them for?

I won't let mine have them till there 14 but they don't go out other than to school with out all them together , any child under 8 can't see point , like jade likes to ring her friends but uses house phone , lewis gets his bag nicked so he would just be to vunable to people

Lauren got one for christmas, shes 10 now though and starting to go a bit further afield, however, she has had the big lecture on not walking around with it in her hand and being discreet when she uses it. She also on really uses it for text messages rather than calls, which they said was the best thing for kids to do. Katie has one, she is 8, but all she does with hers is text her stepbrother and her cousins and play the games on it and it was my sisters old one!

Sd had one for Xmas of mil but she rarely rings out she uses it for text but she also had the lecture bout not showing it off etc.

Tbh if she were mine id have said not til she was 12 but not my dd so not up to me.

Ds is already asking for one but ive told him when he 12 n now he saying but sd isnt 12. :rolleyes:

I have to put my hands up on this one and say that i quite like the idea of my children havin mobiles once they reach the age of 10/11, or even younger. I have thought about this lots and mainly from a safety point of view. I think it would be great for them to have them in their bags incase they needed it, with numbers locked into it that they can use (so they dont use up all the credit calling buddies, and therefore only use it for emergencies). Trouble is, children are children, and they all like to show off, so i know that if mine had them they would be sure to get stolen or lost.
